I have a new PC with W10. I decided to use the PIN code, but now I get the message "Something happened and your PIN isn't available. Click to set up your PIN again."

When I click 'Set up my PIN' nothing, the same message reappears.

I looked up the issue on the internet and found that I should login using another sign-in option. However, there is no way to get to another option. The text above is all I see on the screen.

Hello there! I'm sorry that didn't work. You can try this steps instead:

Turn off your PC

Start your PC, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button on the casing of your PC for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt . . . etc.

Please try each option one at a time, then see of Windows will boot . . .

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Repair

See if Windows startup can repair itself

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - System Restore

Check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to

If you do not have a Restore Point, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Settings and click Restart

Upon restart, press 4 to enter Safe Mode

Once in Safe Mode, backup your data if you do not already have a backup

Open Device Manager and check to make sure all your Drivers are up to date

Reboot to see if Windows will start Normally

If the above fails, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Options - Reset this PC

Choose to keep your files and apps, just your files or to keep nothing

Then start the Reset

Hope this will do the trick

    Still could be the display - on some laptops, the external display only comes on once you are starting Windows. Maybe a bad connection. Also, maybe an iffy power brick. Or power button. But likely hardware. As to a new mobo (more likely used), no idea what it will cost, no idea if it is worth it. Keeping in mind that this is a fairly old model laptop, I would say to not put too much money into it. I would still test out the HD with an external dock or harness for SATA and USB3 since these are not just fairly inexpensive but a very useful tool to have around, especially since most let you hook up to another working PC and checkout the HD.

    I had everything disconnected from motherboard, only had fan, power supply and external monitor connected to it. This didn't help at all while it should've at least booted BIOS that's why it's motherboard's problem for sure.

    Those times I had it running I've changed those boot settings a couple times too. Didn't help either.

    If you don't have any ideas from software side (even tho I can only see that blackscreen), I don't think it's worth wasting both of our time on this problem.

    Ok, so this Asus laptop is pretty old, low end CPU, probably only 4GB of ram, came with Win 8. Have you tried plugging in an HDMI cable to it and to an external monitor or TV? As someone noted in a like situation on another site, the built in monitor may have died. An external monitor MIGHT give you a chance to boot it up and see what's going on (assuming that you have an HD in it with Windows installed). Or, use the VGA port on the laptop to connect to a VGA external monitor.

    Your likely 4GB of ram is soldered to the mobo.

    It is very important in testing a laptop under these circumstances to disconnect EVERYTHING attached to the USB ports. Use the internal keyboard and mousepad only. I've seen damaged wireless mouse / keyboard dongles prevent laptops from booting.

    Also, external docking bays (using USB3 and SATA for the drives) hooked up to another PC would let you test the HD and check its contents. Dual bay if you want to copy contents to a new HD.

    Your laptop seems to come with 'Instant on', probably for web browsing without running Windows. Have you tried that out yet?

    At a certain point, if you get nowhere, you might be better off buying something new. I've no idea if you need a laptop or if a desktop would do. You might find a new or used mobo for less money but you have not confirmed that the mobo is the cause of the problem.
