Windows 10 Feature Update 2004 taking too long to install

Today I was notified by Windows Update that the 2004 update is finally ready to be downloaded and installed on my laptop. I pressed download and install and left the laptop plugged in idle as I did not have any laptop work to do at that time. Now it's been 4 hours since I left it on, and the Windows Update screen (in the Settings > Updates & Security) is still at 94% installing, which is the exact number I saw more than an hour ago. Is it stuck? Why is it taking so long to install? My internet is fast enough, I don't have many programs installed apart from a few essentials such as Office and Inkscape along with other credible software. I am afraid that if I close it and reset the Windows Update, it'll take 4+ hours again (not to mention the additional lengthy rebooting and installing the update again in the blue background screen which happens with every single update), plus it's already night here so I cannot leave it turned on while I go to sleep.

I was finally successful in downloading/installing 2004 during a 3-day interval.  I also checked with Microsoft.

Mine takes several hours and always fails with 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 "The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during the BOOT operation.  The BSOD is THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED - with no details.  It's also not creating and .DMP files despite doing everything to make sure that happens.  Unplugged ALL USB hardware except mouse & keyboard, removed sound card, ran CHKDSK /f and the usual DISM stuff.  All the most recent updates are installed.  I'm on v1909 and it's working fine.  My video driver is current and supported (AMD Radeon R9 200 Series).  All my drivers are up-to-date.  I've even imaged and replaced my hard drive and the results are the same so it's not a bad hard drive.  I'm at a loss.  Next stop is trying a fresh install - which I'd really like to avoid at all costs since it takes forever to get my machine set up the way I like.

    Any ideas?

3-4 days! wow! I guess I got lucky that it just took overnight. Thanks, it looks like lots of people are having this long install problem.

Yes, that 94% sounds familiar. I hope it finally finished for you. I had several of these seeming frozen points before I left it overnight to finish. I wish there were some way to tell a freeze from a long delay that will finish.

Thanks, I finally just started it and after about 3 hours went to bed. When I awakened, it was finished. Like you, most of problems thus far are computer settings type.
