Windows 10 Feature Update 2004 taking too long to install

Today I was notified by Windows Update that the 2004 update is finally ready to be downloaded and installed on my laptop. I pressed download and install and left the laptop plugged in idle as I did not have any laptop work to do at that time. Now it's been 4 hours since I left it on, and the Windows Update screen (in the Settings > Updates & Security) is still at 94% installing, which is the exact number I saw more than an hour ago. Is it stuck? Why is it taking so long to install? My internet is fast enough, I don't have many programs installed apart from a few essentials such as Office and Inkscape along with other credible software. I am afraid that if I close it and reset the Windows Update, it'll take 4+ hours again (not to mention the additional lengthy rebooting and installing the update again in the blue background screen which happens with every single update), plus it's already night here so I cannot leave it turned on while I go to sleep.

    I would like to understand exactly why the 2004 process seems to touch every single file and every single device driver and every aspect of my PC's while it "updates."  What's going on here?  I actually got through the process on each of my 8 machines (desktops and notebooks) after 6 to 8 to 12 hours, and NOTHING seems to have improved or changed.  Except Edge is now thoroughly weaved into the system and is irremovable.  I don't use Edge.  Won't use Edge.  Don't want Edge.  I don't use OneDrive.  Won't use OneDrive.  I don't want OneDrive.  What's going on here?  What else is going on here?  I don't think it's a question of "What ever happened to Microsoft."  I'd like to know what instrumentation they have installed on my computer.

    Yes I understand your problem. I have a Fast gaming laptop. Good Internetcconnection and memory. On my second day of downloading this update. Left it on for the last 48 hours whilst I went to work over the weekend. Still on 47%. What ever happened to Microsoft. Truly appalling. Tried all the fixes and recommended advice on line but still no joy. Are we really expected to wait 2 to 3 days for an update.

    I wonder how many have just decided to pitch their older PC's in the trash and buy new ones because of this ridiculous update.  Why wasn't MS in the witness box along with Facebook, Google, et. al. in front of Congress?  I have multiple machines that ran quite well on Windows 7 and now don't run very well.  Each of these machines took at least half a day to "update" to 2004 and don't appear ONE BIT different to me.  One of my major disputes is the thorough integration of Edge--you cannot uninstall it.  Isn't  MS stealing user data just like the others?  Isn't MS in a MUCH better position to track everybody on earth actually OWNING the OS of nearly EVERYBODY on earth?

    Just for your information, I started this update on a small Dell Laptop to run over night.  I thought it was stuck in the morning at about 83% but just let it go.  It finally got to 100% about 3 hours later, then it requested to reboot, and after several more reboots it completed.  Total time for the update - 12 hours!

    I did have my Webroot antivirus running, but that has never been a problem with any other update on any of my 5 PCs. 

    I will not attempt this update on any of my other PCs for a very long time.  Hopefully, Microsoft will get this ridiculous update fixed.

    Sorry my previous post had all of my tech details... unfortunately your presumption is wrong.

    Less than a year old Dell Precision w/ a 6-core (HT to 12) Core i7-9750H running at 2.6GHz

    System drive is an 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD that is screamingly fast and about 1/2 full.

    My internet connection is a full Gbit which I regularly see sustained transfer rates as high as 1/3 of that from single sources.

    I have 32G of ram.

    Shouldn't be a thing.
