Windows 10 Feature Update 2004 taking too long to install

I wonder how many have just decided to pitch their older PC's in the trash and buy new ones because of this ridiculous update.  Why wasn't MS in the witness box along with Facebook, Google, et. al. in front of Congress?  I have multiple machines that ran quite well on Windows 7 and now don't run very well.  Each of these machines took at least half a day to "update" to 2004 and don't appear ONE BIT different to me.  One of my major disputes is the thorough integration of Edge--you cannot uninstall it.  Isn't  MS stealing user data just like the others?  Isn't MS in a MUCH better position to track everybody on earth actually OWNING the OS of nearly EVERYBODY on earth?

I wasn't so lucky.  Gave up on the upgrade and did a fresh install from the release 2004 media I downloaded.  Hopefully, whatever was "broken" and causing the upgrade to fail won't be an issue on the next Feature Release upgrade.  I spent 5 days and many hours trying everything - uninstalled all hardware, disabled Radeon video drivers, storage drivers, removed my sound card, changed BIOS settings, etc.  Kept getting that stupid thread exception BSOD (after hours of waiting).  No .DMP files to examine because it crashed such that it couldn't write to the disk.   The fresh install worked - so my hardware is compatible.   Makes me love the Linux machines I work on even more.

My first phase (in the Windows Update screen) hung on 92% for many hours (not sure exactly how long because I went to bed but I personally saw at least 8hrs and then was up 5 hours later so 8-13 hours).  

After clicking into the reboot phase I think I've seen it reboot a time or 2 but it's on the main "Working on updates" screen and has been at 25% since almost 5 hours ago.

I have extremely fast net (1Gb) I have an extremely fast system disk with plenty of extra space (M.2 NVMe ~1/2TB free) and plenty of ram (32G).

There is absolutely NO acceptable reason why it should take this long for *any of these phases. What is the update doing under the hood that takes so long? I could probably manually update all of the files myself by hand and it wouldn't take me this long. ???

Updates are Updates and are generally mostly fast my only complaint being that too many of them require reboots these days when Windows was nicely trending towards nearly no reboots before. These "Feature" updates are more like "Service Packs" so I understand they may take a bit longer BUT when we're getting these every quarter or more often that's a TON of time where the host is unusable compared to going through this once or twice a *major release previously.

This has to get better. >:-(

I stopped downloading 2004 it takes far to long. Last time i tried after 2 days only 10% downloaded.

I just installed 2004. It took about an hour. I tried to install it a couple times about a week ago before i gave up. It seemed like all was well my 1st try but it eventually seemed to freeze up. 2nd try was taking forever while i was on my phone reading about the problems with 2004 and i cancelled & paused updates. I was changing a couple minor components and cleaning my PC today and decided to do the update. I dont dont alot on mine, its basically just for iRacing so maybe thats why it went so quickly today? Who knows, but i went for it today and got lucky. PC restarted 3 or 4 times after the download and install but its working great. I did lose some settings, wallpaper is gone, monitors all needed reconfigured but i run 4 of em so could just be me.
