Windows 10 Feature Update 2004 taking too long to install

After spending what seems like a million hours attempting to get the last system (mine!) in my organization from 1909 to 2004, failing each and every time...trying all the tricks I know, tricks I learned along the way and anything/everything "on a hunch", I've decided to port my physical device to virtual (VMware) and will now attempt the update this way. The plan is to remove all of my 3rd party IT tools, one at a time, until successful (at this point, I suspect my failures/problems may be related to one or more of these...a stretch, yes). In the end, I have far too many requirements in my "day job" to take the plunge of a new/fresh install. I suppose I could do that over a weekend, but I spend too much time as it is at work.  LOL

Problems with Windows10 are a problem.  My latest update (2004} went through all the processes taking about 4  hours.   When it appeared the update was over, it started the whole process over again.  This time it stuck on 95% for goodness knows how long.

I really believe Microsoft are trying with what is an excellent Operating System, but there are problems.  I am not a heavy user and think Linux is my future.

Every update of any size causes me hours, if not a day and a bit of problems.

I have tried twice to install this update on a good NBN connection.  I left it for 24 hours the first time, and for 5.5 hours the second time.  Both times the installation stuck on 0% for a really long time, and eventually hung at 84% with the normal warning not to turn the computer off.

It seems the main way to avoid an installation attempt is to leave the computer on 24/7, and to try to keep putting off the forced update for as long as you can.  Since powering the computer down when it's spinning on a blue screen warning you not to turn the computer off, followed by an 'Attempting to recover...' message when you're inevitably forced to power down in order to get a workable computer back isn't reassuring, I was hoping for a workaround.

I think there is something wrong, and I'm waiting watching for solutions, Microsoft.

One of my customers computer stopped on 84% for several hours, and I advised him to unplug the power, and restart normally, and I went to him and installed the update from a flash drive. It took a couple of hours, but it installed. I'm not sure that that will help you, but if you can, try it. Just load the update with the Media Creation Tool, and select creating a flash drive to install the update 'on another computer'. Go into the BIOS (if necessary) and select booting to the flash drive. Save and Exit. Restart the computer, and follow the installation prompts. After the installation, follow the setup prompts, and you should be good to go. Post back the results.

This is getting to be a very involved procedure for an update. Let's hope MS is listening. Fat chance of that happening!!!

You should return the PC this could mean it doesn't have an authentic Windows version.
