Today I was notified by Windows Update that the 2004 update is finally ready to be downloaded and installed on my laptop. I pressed download and install and left the laptop plugged in idle as I did not have any laptop work to do at that time. Now it's been 4 hours since I left it on, and the Windows Update screen (in the Settings > Updates & Security) is still at 94% installing, which is the exact number I saw more than an hour ago. Is it stuck? Why is it taking so long to install? My internet is fast enough, I don't have many programs installed apart from a few essentials such as Office and Inkscape along with other credible software. I am afraid that if I close it and reset the Windows Update, it'll take 4+ hours again (not to mention the additional lengthy rebooting and installing the update again in the blue background screen which happens with every single update), plus it's already night here so I cannot leave it turned on while I go to sleep.

Yes I understand your problem. I have a Fast gaming laptop. Good Internetcconnection and memory. On my second day of downloading this update. Left it on for the last 48 hours whilst I went to work over the weekend. Still on 47%. What ever happened to Microsoft. Truly appalling. Tried all the fixes and recommended advice on line but still no joy. Are we really expected to wait 2 to 3 days for an update.
Just for your information, I started this update on a small Dell Laptop to run over night. I thought it was stuck in the morning at about 83% but just let it go. It finally got to 100% about 3 hours later, then it requested to reboot, and after several more reboots it completed. Total time for the update - 12 hours!
I did have my Webroot antivirus running, but that has never been a problem with any other update on any of my 5 PCs.
I will not attempt this update on any of my other PCs for a very long time. Hopefully, Microsoft will get this ridiculous update fixed.

Less than a year old Dell Precision w/ a 6-core (HT to 12) Core i7-9750H running at 2.6GHz
System drive is an 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD that is screamingly fast and about 1/2 full.
My internet connection is a full Gbit which I regularly see sustained transfer rates as high as 1/3 of that from single sources.
I have 32G of ram.
Shouldn't be a thing.
Hi, I was generally checking the windows update and there was feature update 10, version 2004. It's taking a long time to install. I have paused the update for now. Is it good ti install it now or should i wait and install. I read somewhere that there might be bugs if we download it as soon as it is released. Please help me.
22-27 hours for a Windows 10 upgrade is insane! Patience is one thing, but that would require the patience of a Saint with a lot of free time!
Question(s); What kind of PC do you have (make/model, processor, RAM, hard drive size & type)? I ask because based on the amount of time it took, I'm guessing it's an older system with limited RAM and/or slow CPU cores, and most likely a mechanical hard drive. A slow Internet connection would also drastically affect the time it took to download the upgrade software.
I have an 8-core Zeon processor, 64GB RAM, a 1-TB SSD (Solid State Drive) and a broadband Internet connection have gets about 220 Mbps. Still, even with server-grade hardware, my upgrade attempts, albeit failed attempts, were taking about 3-4 hours. The fresh install took less than 1 hour. I'm an IT Systems Administrator, so I've done some tedious long installs & upgrades on very old hardware - but even installing Novell Netware on old 80368 hardware, swapping dozens of 3.5" disk never took over 1 day!
Anyways, I'm glad to hear your upgrade finally "took". I'm glad I finally gave up and did a fresh install on my PC because there must have been registry issues or some rogue driver that was causing mine to consistently fail no matter what steps I took to prevent it from failing.
