Brother MFC-240C won't print after Win 10 updates

I have installed 3 Win 10 updates in the last two days (KB4560960, KB4561600, KB4497165), and now my Brother MFC-240C printer will not print anything from my computer.  When I try to print something, the job appears in the print queue for a fraction of a second, then disappears.  The printer never starts printing.  I can scan successfully, so the connection (USB) is OK.  I have tried the usual troubleshooting:  removing and reinstalling the printer, removing and reinstalling the driver package - still no luck.  I can use the copy function on the printer, and it prints out the scanned copy just fine.  Win10 appears unable to send print jobs to my printer after this update, and I have no idea how to fix it.

Greetings,

My name is Rhaine, I'm Independent Community Advisor. I’m so glad assisting you today

I am also Windows user. Let us work together to sort this out.

You can try uninstalling the KB Update KB:4560960 and KB:4561608 as a workaround.

To uninstall the update using command prompt follow the steps below.

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type cmd in the search box
  3. Right click on it and run the application using administrator.
  4. A box will open.
  5. Type the following command after replacing the KB ID with the one that you wish to uninstall: wusa /uninstall /kb:[id]
  6. Example: wusa /uninstall /KB:4023057
  7. Once done typing hit enter.

Once done uninstalling the both KB update restart your pc and try to check if issue persist.

I hope the steps above helps. Have a nice day ahead and be safe.

With Warm Regards

Rhaine C.

Agreed, at this point (with a hotfix available), there is no need to uninstall the problematic update.  I think that was just the best option for panicked users like myself who suddenly found themselves without use of their printers to run businesses, complete school assignments, etc.

I am not a super-knowledgeable computer person, but I suspect that applying the hotfix also installs the KB4560960 update information.  I originally uninstalled the update, then put auto-update on hold (as my machine wanted to re-install it).  KB4560960 continued to show in my update queue for several days as waiting to be installed.  After reading your advisory of an available hotfix, I went ahead and installed KB4567512, successfully tested my printer, then returned to Update & Security to turn auto-update back on.  I thought I would have to re-install KB4560960, but it no longer appeared in the queue, leading me to believe that the hotfix addressed that issue.  I now have auto-update operating, and my update status shows "up to date".

Again, many thanks for your help in finally putting this issue to rest.

There's no need to uninstall KB4560960. I'd suggest leaving it alone, since there's no-doubt something in there we'll need.

Just install the patch over it, and it'll work.

Use KB4567512 for versions 1903 and 1909, and use KB4567523 for version 2004. Both of them, as of today, have worked for me without uninstalling any previous offending updates.

Windows did not permit me to uninstall KB4560960  but after installing KB4567512 my Brother MFC-J415W is back and printing.  Many thanks.

The culprit, in my case, was KB4560960, which caused my Brother printer not to print (MFC-J615W).

Microsoft issued a patch for it, KB4567512. I applied this patch, and everything returned to normal.

    This works in version 1909, and 1903. Here's a link to KB4567512. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4567512/windows-10-update-kb4567512.

If you've already upgraded to version 2004, you'll need to use a different patch. Here's a link to the patch, although I have not tried it myself:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4567523/windows-10-update-kb4567523.

Neither of these will come through Windows Update... you'll need to download and install them yourself.

Well thank you, thank you, this actually worked! YASSSSSSSS!

I had a MS Person for 2 hours trying to figure this out yesterday and NOTHING, they didn't have a clue and told me I need to go to the Brother Printer Company for help! and emailed me and thanked for for contacting them, for what I asked myself LOL!

LAHarrison, Thank you so much for helping me.....I cant believe this actually worked! Why does MS not have this information to fix this as the tech person didn't have a clue!

Anyways, LAHarrison, thank you so much for your help!
