Brother MFC-240C won't print after Win 10 updates

I have installed 3 Win 10 updates in the last two days (KB4560960, KB4561600, KB4497165), and now my Brother MFC-240C printer will not print anything from my computer.  When I try to print something, the job appears in the print queue for a fraction of a second, then disappears.  The printer never starts printing.  I can scan successfully, so the connection (USB) is OK.  I have tried the usual troubleshooting:  removing and reinstalling the printer, removing and reinstalling the driver package - still no luck.  I can use the copy function on the printer, and it prints out the scanned copy just fine.  Win10 appears unable to send print jobs to my printer after this update, and I have no idea how to fix it.

Greetings,

My name is Rhaine, I'm Independent Community Advisor. I’m so glad assisting you today

I am also Windows user. Let us work together to sort this out.

You can try uninstalling the KB Update KB:4560960 and KB:4561608 as a workaround.

To uninstall the update using command prompt follow the steps below.

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type cmd in the search box
  3. Right click on it and run the application using administrator.
  4. A box will open.
  5. Type the following command after replacing the KB ID with the one that you wish to uninstall: wusa /uninstall /kb:[id]
  6. Example: wusa /uninstall /KB:4023057
  7. Once done typing hit enter.

Once done uninstalling the both KB update restart your pc and try to check if issue persist.

I hope the steps above helps. Have a nice day ahead and be safe.

With Warm Regards

Rhaine C.

My problem was that the print job would briefly appear in the print queue then disappear without printing.  A couple of weeks ago I deleted the above noted KB's, which resolved the problem then, but it came back after a subsequent update.  Microsoft has released another hotfix to address this issue: kb4567523.   This worked for a Brother MFC-440CN.

"Addresses an issue that might prevent certain printers from printing. The print spooler might generate an error or close unexpectedly when attempting to print, and no output will come from the affected printer. You might also encounter issues with the apps you are attempting to print from, such as receiving an error, or the app might close unexpectedly."

    Update:

More than one hotfix addresses this issue.  Choose according to your Windows version:

    kb4567512 applies to Windows 10 versions 1903 and 1909

    kb4567523 applies to Windows 10 version 2004

    MC Young/Raine C:

Thank you so much for being detailed an precise in your posts.  I had this exact problem with my Brother MFC-240C printer.  I had initially tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and drivers but nothing worked.  When I searched I found your post right away and only uninstalled the KB4560960 update.  After uninstalling this one update I was prompted to reboot, and after the restart My printer was working fine again.

It may be worth noting that before I uninstalled that update my scanner functions still worked on the printer, but not the printer itself.

    Thanks so Much!

    Zak

Simply uninstalling the update will not work any more, as Microsoft has issued a "hotfix" specifically to address the printer problem (KB4567512).  I have cut & pasted the info below from a previous post.  Good luck to you...

The situation has evolved, as Microsoft has now issued a patch to correct the printer problem.

This is copied/pasted from a previous post in this thread, and is the best advice I know of now to correct the problem:

Microsoft acknowledged the printer problem caused by their update, and issued a hotfix (KB4567512) to address it last week on June 16.

After reading LAHarrison's post, I downloaded & installed the hotfix, and everything is working normally now.

Here is a link to a page where you can download the hotfix directly - you'll need to know your version of Windows to select the right fix:  https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4567512

The printing problem is associated with update KB4560960.  All you have to do is to install patch update KB4567512 and the problem will be resolved.
