Brother MFC-240C won't print after Win 10 updates

I have installed 3 Win 10 updates in the last two days (KB4560960, KB4561600, KB4497165), and now my Brother MFC-240C printer will not print anything from my computer.  When I try to print something, the job appears in the print queue for a fraction of a second, then disappears.  The printer never starts printing.  I can scan successfully, so the connection (USB) is OK.  I have tried the usual troubleshooting:  removing and reinstalling the printer, removing and reinstalling the driver package - still no luck.  I can use the copy function on the printer, and it prints out the scanned copy just fine.  Win10 appears unable to send print jobs to my printer after this update, and I have no idea how to fix it.

Greetings,

My name is Rhaine, I'm Independent Community Advisor. I’m so glad assisting you today

I am also Windows user. Let us work together to sort this out.

You can try uninstalling the KB Update KB:4560960 and KB:4561608 as a workaround.

To uninstall the update using command prompt follow the steps below.

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type cmd in the search box
  3. Right click on it and run the application using administrator.
  4. A box will open.
  5. Type the following command after replacing the KB ID with the one that you wish to uninstall: wusa /uninstall /kb:[id]
  6. Example: wusa /uninstall /KB:4023057
  7. Once done typing hit enter.

Once done uninstalling the both KB update restart your pc and try to check if issue persist.

I hope the steps above helps. Have a nice day ahead and be safe.

With Warm Regards

Rhaine C.

My best advice is cut & pasted from another reply:

The situation has evolved, as Microsoft has now issued a patch to correct the printer problem.

This is copied/pasted from a previous post in this thread, and is the best advice I know of now to correct the problem:

Microsoft acknowledged the printer problem caused by their update, and issued a hotfix (KB4567512) to address it last week on June 16.

After reading LAHarrison's post, I downloaded & installed the hotfix, and everything is working normally now.

Here is a link to a page where you can download the hotfix directly - you'll need to know your version of Windows to select the right fix:  https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4567512

Thank you Raine C! The first time around, I did not put in the space after "wusa" or after "uninstall", and I was unsuccessful.  The second try, I paid more attention to the exact format.   Like MC Young's reply below I only uninstalled one KB Update at a time.  After completion of the first uninstall for KB:4560960 and restart, it worked!  Amazing.

Indeed, a MS problem. I personally take a bit of issue that Brother just let Control Center die and take the OCR functionality along with it, but it also may be that it's not worth their time to figure out how to make 14-year-old hardware and dedicated software play really nice with new versions of multiple OSs.

This is a Microsoft Windows problem, not a Brother problem (at least in my case).  The printer works just fine;  the recent update to Windows was flawed, and printing commands were not being sent to the printer.  I am hoping that Microsoft comes up with a fix - I know they are aware of the issue, but I can’t say how much effort they are putting toward a solution.
