Windows 11 - File Explorer always opening the Address Bar after cut copy paste any file - Huge Mess

The fact that we're still talking about this issue 506 days after the OP started this thread is mindboggling.

It's been 1217 days since they broke "Also apply this template to all subfolders", so I'm not holding my breath.

Address Bar in Windows Explorer Randomly Shows History When Toolbar Buttons Clicked

Hello, I'm reporting that on Windows 11, the auto-suggest list for Windows Explorer's address bar keeps randomly popping open when clicking various file operation buttons on the toolbar. Using right-click context menu to perform the same operations doesn't appear to trigger the same behavior as often. I've tried everything to disable auto-suggest for the address bar, but the problem persists. It's frankly hard to believe Microsoft has failed to address this issue - more than a year into this nagging issue. I'm on build 24H2. Just fix this already!

While you're at it, fix the file renaming issue caused by OneDrive.

As at 4 March 2025 I'm still having issues with Explorer and the address bar. Don't know if it's the tabs, but even yesterday I was pasting a valid address into the address bar, and pressing enter, and it's like the entire action was just ignored or dropped. I had to quite explorer for it to start working again.

This is definitely a core problem that needs a focused effort to resolve. It's shoddy and contributes to a 'meh good enough' feel. I can't imagine Apple just letting stuff like that slide. Yes, take that as a challenge- aim for 'better than Apple'.

I see that you're experiencing an issue with File Explorer in Windows 11 where the address bar gets highlighted or activated after performing file operations like cut, copy, or paste. This could be due to a focus issue where the system is set to automatically focus on the address bar after such operations.

I also tried to do some tests for this problem. The version number is 22631.2861, but after cutting/pasting/copying and dragging files, everything seems to be fine in the file explorer.

First of all, if this problem occurs after a recent update, I It is recommended that you try Roll Back an Update via Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to uninstall recent quality updates and security updates. This should allow you to troubleshoot whether the problem is caused by the KB update.

In addition, I will try to suggest that you share with me a video of your problem reproducing. I will try to discuss this video with internal staff and ask if it is caused by a recent update. If it is convenient, please upload the video to the cloud disk and publish it. Share link.

In the meantime, please check if your device has any external USB devices plugged in, if so, try disconnecting these extra devices (leave only mouse, keyboard.) and then perform copy/paste/cut etc operations again to see the issue whether it happens again)
