    Your reply sounds reasonable, and I think we non-pro's have no other option. But the updates contain security measures for the ever evolving cybercrime environment and I am reluctant to use my laptop online without the updates installed.

    This was my concern too, but as far as I can tell, this is ONLY an issue with Bitlocker if someone has physical access to your device, NOT something that can be exploited online (and of course not even relevant if you don't have Bitlocker turned on, in which case the bad guys wouldn't have to bypass it. I like it/use it though)

    What is does interfere with, at least on my computer is running Defender off line scan. I have tried all the forum discussion advice and instructions. When I press scan now, and then do you want to run the app. I press yes and nothing. Doesnt go to your computer will start in 15 second message. My computer seems to think its an update that first needs to be applied. Before Off line scan can run. I could do a quick scan.
