Couldn't MS do this to its users automatically without having to do it manually for non-technical users? :/

Good News Guys! As if this afternoon. Microsoft has simply removed the Update in question. It no longer appears in my Update list even if I check for updates. Update and error messages are simply gone. So I'm guessing they withdrew it and are working on it in the back rooms. For all those of you who tampered with your partition limits. Well, it might have fixed your computer updates for now. But who knows down the road what it may bring. I double checked right before seeing this, and yeah! The link for it in Windows Update now has info on it about this problem, which is great! They'll probably reissue it, and personally after finding out it requires physical access to your PC (and at that, only applies if you have Bitlocker on and in a certain configuration)

I tried running the Powershell script (from here: KB5034957: Updating the WinRE partition on deployed devices to address security vulnerabilities in CVE-2024-20666 - Microsoft Support ) but it still failed as follows: 01/12/2024 23:21:16 - Target file version: 10.0.18362.1 01/12/2024 23:21:16 - Warning: unsupported OS version 01/12/2024 23:21:16 - Apply package:C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\bd52f2e281f320e74d3d930143b60c3a7cde8097 01/12/2024 23:21:29 - Applying the package failed with exit code: 87 The script continued, invoked WinRE, unmounted the image, and concluded "The operation completed successfully" even though it didn't. I'm running this on an older Windows 10 Professional edition running build version 22H2 10.0.19045.3930. It's a laptop without a TPM and Bitlocker is disabled. The "unsupported OS" version warning leads me to think that there is an incompatibility between my OS version, the WinRE version, and the Security Update's expectations of the minimum OS environment that it requires. Seems like Microsoft didn't test all the OS configuration variants on this update package....

Same problem here I'm glad it is not just me. Microsoft expects us all to be IT pros who can fix THEIR problems I guess.
