Windows 10 22h2 security update [KB5034441] fails to install with code: 0x80070643

The latest update downloads and then fails to install.

  • OS Build # 19045.3930.
  • Update Troubleshoot tool repair but it does not help.
  • MS Windows Update Catalog does not have the update.
  • Other updates all went through without any trouble.

This is a brand new update. Is this a known issue? Is there a resolution specific to this update? (Please do not copy and paste standard procedure)

    I do not have bitlocker on any of my machines and still getting the error. This is entirely an issue with the install package. QA failed in their job.

    I repaired the OS with sfc /scannow

    I resized the partition (500MB to 750MB)

    I reset the cache (Stopped windows update service and rd /S /Q C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution)

    Still get the: "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070643)"

    Guess I'll wait for the net update.

    Thanks. After expanding the Windows RE parition using the steps in the article you linked the update installed without an error.

    Windows 10 22H2 32-bit running in a Hyper-V VM with a MBR disk. BitLocker not enabled.

    I have Bitlocker enabled, but not for the Windows drive.

    Solution that worked for me:

    KB5028997: Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update

    If your device has the recovery partition before the OS partition, then instead of

    shrinkdesired=250 minimum=250

    run

    shrinkdesired=750 minimum=750

    Although I know this is going to work, there is no way I will be doing that to all the computers I support or advise inexperienced users to do that. That would involves hours of work remotely accessing these boxes.

    Could anything go wrong???? (we all know that answer)!

    1. This shouldn't have happened in the first place (plenty of comments re that).
    2. MS should aroung a proper fix quickly & apologise for the stuff-up.
