Windows 10 22h2 security update [KB5034441] fails to install with code: 0x80070643

The latest update downloads and then fails to install.

  • OS Build # 19045.3930.
  • Update Troubleshoot tool repair but it does not help.
  • MS Windows Update Catalog does not have the update.
  • Other updates all went through without any trouble.

This is a brand new update. Is this a known issue? Is there a resolution specific to this update? (Please do not copy and paste standard procedure)

    I did this procedure but it resulted in an unformatted 250MB partition, and did not add to the Recovery partition size as desired. My partiton order is not standard I guess, my C drive is part 2 and EFI is part 3, and Recovery part 4.. so maybe thats why.

    I had a handful of updates and the only one that won't work is: 2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441) keeps failing to update. There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070643)

    This is my own personal report. If it helps, or inspires other ideas, then great. If not, then sorry, move on to something else.

    Apparently the old 451 MB recovery partition is not quite enough to update WinRE. Instead of running through the nonsense of using the convoluted command-line to resize the recovery partition, I used a 3rd Party Partition Manager application "EaseUS Easy Partition Manager 16.5". I'm sure other applications will do quite nicely, but this was my choice. It has a pleasant GUI, and it fixes the issue fast.

    My resizing procedure involved shrinking a data partition that was consecutive to the recovery partition. Using the newly unallocated space I took from my data partition, I expanded the recovery partition to 1 GB. This can all be done in just a few clicks of a mouse, or a few taps of a screen, then a reboot. This makes it quite roomy for WinRE and I'm sure the recovery partition loves it's new home.

    The Update installed successfully after resizing the recovery partition.

    I have attempted the same 'corrections' they listed; none worked, and this has happened on three separate Windows 10 devices family and relatives own: I'll wait until the next security update, MSN needs to make

    sure their stuff will work, not force frustrations on the users.

    Are you suggesting that this is the only solution!!!

    What happened to the one that says that it shouldn't have occurred in the first place & needs to be fixed by MS.

    I'm not going to waste my time making dozens of changes to machines all over the place.

    Just fix it properly!!!!
