Windows 10 22h2 security update [KB5034441] fails to install with code: 0x80070643

500 devices!? And MS says we should fix it!? Smh if stuff like this happens again I'm gonna start using a mac FFS.

We have Macs that have issues with updates as well in our environment. I have one currently that refuses to install the latest MacOS update and it has to be wiped and have MacOS reinstalled to fix it. Sadly, MacOS suffers from many of the same issues as Windows. All of our Windows 10 PC's appear to be failing to install this update, Microsoft will have to pull it or fix it with a new update.

I mean I have an old chromebook and its quite slow but the OS is just plain better in my opinion if you really don't want to have any hassle. And I rarely hear apple making a faulty update for MacOS so I think MS is just dragging its feet since it knows a lot of people won't switch to other OS's.

I just started running into this, and there's this blurb in the description of the update:

IMPORTANT

Some computers might not have a recovery partition that is large enough to complete this update. Because of this, the update for WinRE might fail. In this case, you will receive the following error message:

• Windows Recovery Environment servicing failed.
  (CBS_E_INSUFFICIENT_DISK_SPACE)

To help you recover from this failure, please follow Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update.

Known issue Because of an issue in the error code handling routine, you might receive the following error message instead of the expected error message when there is insufficient disk space:

I tried the process of resizing the recovery partition and ran into an interesting error when I tried to re-enable it. Windows reported it can't enable it while Bitlocker is enabled.

So I'm wondering if this patch to fix a Bitlocker-related vulnerability requires Bitlocker to be disabled and the device decrypted before it will work.

Thoughts?

LOL, let's count the Microsoft fails here one by one:

1. Windows Updates should be silently happening in the background, the user shouldn't have to do any manual actions
2. Giving a cryptic catch-all error message
3. Instructing the user to do some not-so-intuitive steps that involve resizing frickin' partitions
4. I installed Windows manually on a no-OS computer using a DVD I burned with Microsoft's Media Creation tool, AND I WASN'T GIVEN THE OPTION TO SET A FRICKIN' RECOVERY PARTITION SIZE. I am not sure my computer even has a recovery partition.

Good job Microsoft geniuses.

So, when I see MacOS slowly but steadily gaining on Windows in StatCounter stats in markets such as the US (where more people can afford the cost of Mac hardware), and ChromeOS going from statistical noise to 8% market share in the US, I am not surprised.

i don't even have a back up partition so this will fail and i have no clue or desire to make one, hopefully they fix it
