    I have Bitlocker enabled, but not for the Windows drive.

    Solution that worked for me:

    KB5028997: Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update

    If your device has the recovery partition before the OS partition, then instead of

    shrinkdesired=250 minimum=250

    run

    shrinkdesired=750 minimum=750

    None of the procedures in the above list will work. You have to expand the Recovery Environment partition and reconfigure it afterwards so that it is exactly like it was before, only larger. Then the windows update will install successfully. Doing all this requires computer skills light years beyond what the average PC owner has. It took me 9 hours to figure this out, while going down many dead-end paths, and I worked in IT for over 50 years.

    My issue is that they are doing it several times a week! I need to find something out and I have to click through next/next/next....I know when that happens the browser has also opened my home page but maybe there is something interesting going on that might be handy, I just wish they would save the darn things for Sunday or some like that.
    Worse though is that they are so fixated on Win 11 that 10 is getting no new features, my Gen 6 PC can't upgrade and they keep making me aware that I'll have to throw it away next year/or else.....I want to know if the TPM change in the OS has actually saved even one PC from an infection.
    Their constant BS with killing working programs and OS's to try and make us spend money (this month it was Clip Champ) should be illegal

    when i discovered this info yesterday, it was a severe /headdesk /facepalm: they've also got eyes on a possible Windows 12! however, what they're doing right now is going to make a LOT of lads n ladies very very angry. hopefully, so much anger that MS ends up losing revenue from us older Windows users. that info was shared with members of me family who all happened to have pc's n laptops. me mum has an old windows 7 throwaway that won't get any better for her because neither of us, her n i, can afford to upgrade to 11, or anything higher for that matter. MS must've known the consequences for losing revenue from us, however, i'm guessing that NOBODY over there at MS gives a $hyte, because, well, we've ALREADY paid em enough to retire about a million times over...so they feel quite comfy with it, r willing to cut most customers out, n they're too busy smiling about THEIR plan.

    (IMPORTANT : Please make sure that you "know what you are doing" before following the steps presents. I think doing it wrong may cause some serious problems.)

    Following steps here :

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb5028997-instructions-to-manually-resize-your-partition-to-install-the-winre-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf

    and retrying the windows update fixed the issue for me.

    Cheers,

    Ken
