Win11 Search and other apps typing issue

I have an issue where today (Jan 16,2024) in the taskbar search bar it either double types every character or doesn't at all. This is not just isolated to the search bar, when attempting to utilize any MS Win app feature that requires typing of any sort such as logging in to manage email accounts, Task Manager, Add or Remove Programs, etc. It all behaves the same way. I have tried many different options to include restarts, restarting the SearchBar, restarting Explorer, Uninstalling and Reinstalling my Keyboard and Mouse, changed the repeating character speed, etc. This doesn't happen in any other program which is evident in this question submission. I should add it also doesn't happen in MS Office software, or even when I go to Control Panel and test the repeating character text box. It's very odd that it specifically is happening to only certain features of which I use often. I'm not sure what else to try. I'd rather not have to clean wipe/clean install my OS to fix this issue.

    I faced the same issue & resolved it now

    Thank you so, so, SO much. I had all but given up on what to do after trying everything else I could find. I decided to come back to this forum after a couple of weeks, found your comment, and was able to update/fix my issue.

    A little more information what the windows help did with me:

    • I had exactly the same error, as everyone of you was describing.
    • First we checked under Settings > Windows Update if there were any available updates. It said there are none and i'm up to date.
    • When i clicked on the "Get help" it showed me my system is not up to date, so that was the first indication that something was wrong
    • the help desk Person next deleted my old download files (in the system browser). That didnt help because it still showed no option to update under "Settings > Windows Update"
    • so we downloaded the file for manual update (Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)) under "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 devices"
    • i ran the iso file
    • then there was an error saying the update can't be installed because TPM 2.0 is not active
    • Heres a article how to do that: Aktivieren von TPM 2.0 auf Ihrem PC - Microsoft-Support (in my case we went as following:)
    • To activate it the computer had to be started in "Advanced startup" ( Start > Settings > System > Recovery. Next to Advanced startup, click Restart now.)
    • Then its best to google how to activate TPM 2.0 on your motherboard for me that was the solution: How to Enable TPM on MSI Motherboards Featuring TPM 2.0

    Afterwards i started the update again and it succesfully went through and the error was fixed.

    thanks for your gratitude and quick response, can you please help me my laptop is Surface Book - 512GB i7 16GB with GPU windows 11 compatibility Updating to 22H2 ?

    currently running : windows 11 Pro version 21H2
