Win11 Search and other apps typing issue

I have an issue where today (Jan 16,2024) in the taskbar search bar it either double types every character or doesn't at all. This is not just isolated to the search bar, when attempting to utilize any MS Win app feature that requires typing of any sort such as logging in to manage email accounts, Task Manager, Add or Remove Programs, etc. It all behaves the same way. I have tried many different options to include restarts, restarting the SearchBar, restarting Explorer, Uninstalling and Reinstalling my Keyboard and Mouse, changed the repeating character speed, etc. This doesn't happen in any other program which is evident in this question submission. I should add it also doesn't happen in MS Office software, or even when I go to Control Panel and test the repeating character text box. It's very odd that it specifically is happening to only certain features of which I use often. I'm not sure what else to try. I'd rather not have to clean wipe/clean install my OS to fix this issue.

    Hi All,

    Hope this helps someone. I managed to get this solved.

    In my case I have a service called AppProtection Service. now the description reads. AppProtection software is designed to safeguard entry fields and prevent keylogging spyware from accessing password details and other sensitive information from users. This might be part of a citrix installation ad it is installed in Program files x8s citrix. So perhaps the vendor needs to be told. But for me, disabling, stopping and rebooting fixes it.

    To test if it breaks, you can enable and start, without restarting your pc, it breaks straight away.

    Yes this worked in my case as well - issue due to Citrix service "AppProtection Service"

    Like you said: Stop > disable and then reboot the machine to fix the issue.

    I had the same issue. Luckly we are in the process of moving to 22H2 so I upgraded, and it resolved my issue.

    Had to manually download windows 11 23H2 from the microsoft website and upgrade from 21H2. Fortunately this resolved my issue. Needed to manually enable BIOS settings secure boot, core isolation, and TPM 2.0 in order to do this. Google how to do it for your specific manufacturer. Best of luck.

    Same issue, started today.

    An additional problem, I'm running 21H2 but Windows isn't detecting any updates. So I can't even install the update to attempt that fix. And of course we haven't heard anything from anyone is 3 days....

    I suppose Windows 10 was good so Microsoft stand operating procedure applies...discontinue support for decent OS and release garbage OS so people will be itching to move to the next one...looking at you ME, Vista, 8...

    Same issue here with my Asus ROG G15 laptop with Microsoft Windows 11 Home. Brand new laptop from Nov 2023 and issue wasn't presented. Just noticed the issue on Jan 17th 2024. Looked at system updates only Windows Defender received new updates. Last Windows systems update was from Nov. Everything I type in Windows task bar including search is double typed. If I uninstall/reinstall the keyboard drivers then nothing types on the task bar search until I restart the search task in task manager. All other applications are working perfectly fine.
