Install error - 0x80070643 Windows 10, version 21H2 and 22H2

I have been having this error for a long time now, it keeps saying "retry"after i click on it. Anyone know how to fix it?

I googled the actual KB and found this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/kb5034441-windows-recovery-environment-update-for-windows-10-version-21h2-and-22h2-january-9-2024-62c04204-aaa5-4fee-a02a-2fdea17075a8. It seems that it updates the Windows Recovery (WinRE) environment, and the tip about resizing the partition for that is valid. You can find the link to the instructions in the KB article I linked.

I did that and the installation passed.

    For the shrink command had you selected the recovery partition? as you are meant to shrink the primary partition, then delete and re create the recovery partition. Thus increasing it's size allowing you to install this update.

    Thank you to Volume Z for the info! This worked for me once I had selected the correct partitions.

    That is not a solution, that's a workaround. In the meantime (check bleepingcomputer.com and others) there are people with sizes way more than enough still getting this error.

    On 1 pc with 547 MB space I tried this "solution" and got hanging on step 8, not able to enable reagentc anymore.

    So I used a new install from usb, removed all partitions and installed again. Now this time, after installation and updates the update went fine.

    Guess what... sizes of recovery partition... 547 MB.

    So how come it's the same size and this time no errors?

    Now on my own pc, same error on updating. My pc has a 600 MB rescue partition and right next to that on the right side, an unused unpartitioned space of over 400 MB so windows could have taken what it needed. But it didn't. I call that bad programming if that isn't even checked.

    There are people around with 1 GB of recovery partition getting this error, which is way more than enough space.

    Mainstream users don't have that knowledge and don't risk things. Microsoft should just fix this update.

    1. Download the MiniTool Partition Wizard 12 program (portable version here: MiniTool Portable Partition Magic Brings Easier Disk Management - MiniTool Partition Wizard

    Use it to extend Recovery partition to at least 1000MB

    • Right click on Recovery Partition
    • Extend
    • Take free space from (from which partition take the size, I recommend C partition - where the OS is)
    • Use the slider to increase the value so that the Recovery partition has at least 1000-1500 MB
    • OK

    Confirm Apply changes with the Apply button

    Restart

    Install Update

    Much easier and faster than the command line.
