I googled the actual KB and found this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/kb5034441-windows-recovery-environment-update-for-windows-10-version-21h2-and-22h2-january-9-2024-62c04204-aaa5-4fee-a02a-2fdea17075a8. It seems that it updates the Windows Recovery (WinRE) environment, and the tip about resizing the partition for that is valid. You can find the link to the instructions in the KB article I linked.

I did that and the installation passed.

Had to release my SAMSUNG SSD's "overprovisioning-partition"! (although there was enough space left)

    everything went smooth afterwards.

    thank you

As listed all over the comments, the solution is to extend the WinRE partition, which involves decreasing your OS partition. This does carry some risk and is a disaster to perform for +1,000 PCs.

Anyway, some may find the output of the operation (cmd-line), when done successfully, to be useful and help eliminate any doubt about what to do with what partitions:

In my case, I have install.esd instead of install.wim, but otherwise this solution works for me as well.

    thanks

don't understand any of it; the update of 10th January failed here as well.....same issue. But I am a nitwit on computers and taking action in cmd....too difficult. Since the update failed, my donut at my pointing arrow (mouse) on screen keeps on turning; very annoying.....

can the failed update be a cause of this? Nothing was wrong before the failed update.
