I googled the actual KB and found this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/kb5034441-windows-recovery-environment-update-for-windows-10-version-21h2-and-22h2-january-9-2024-62c04204-aaa5-4fee-a02a-2fdea17075a8. It seems that it updates the Windows Recovery (WinRE) environment, and the tip about resizing the partition for that is valid. You can find the link to the instructions in the KB article I linked.

I did that and the installation passed.

Converting to UEFI is not an option for me given my motherboard (GA-Z68XP-UD3 rev1.0). When I installed the OS I installed on a 1TB 2.5in SSD and let Windows do it's thing. Also running legacy BIOS (Award soft - version F-10 latest for my board.

We will then wait for Microsoft to come up with a functionally update... But always a good idea, to empty the Temp / Download-folders in Windows now and then. I has made shortcuts to them in my Documents-folder, so it's easy to find them there. Remark, if resetting Windows Update, you need to create a new shortcut to the Download-folder. because there will be created a new SoftwareDistribution-folder in Wondows....

In Documents, I created a folder and called it Clean up, and throw the Temp- and Download-folder in that - then, it's easy to find without going to the C-drive and Windows.

There sometimes will be files, you can't delete in these folders... Just leave them alone. Never mind with them...

I wasn't aware of the SoftwareDistribution folder, so thanks for the heads-up. But upon trying to install the Window update, I experienced the same failed result and error message after deleting the contents of the SoftwareDistribution folder.

And yes, all relevant temp folders were also empty.
