frustrating update of KB5034441

Here is a fix I just verified from Microsoft resources and guaranteed it works.

First of all:

In the Windows search,

Search for Windows Powershell, right-click it and choose run as administrator.

Next, execute this command:

set-executionpolicy remotesigned

Afterwards, select Yes to All when prompted. Keep the Window open.

Download this script.

Make two folders on your C drive root, with names 1 and 2, so their paths are as follows:

C:\1

C:\2

Paste the script file you downloaded into folder 1.

In the Powershell window, navigate to the C drive folder and enter this command:

cd C:\1

This will ensure the folder which contains the script is selected. Now, we need to run the script, which increases the size of WinRE. For that, run the following command:

.\1.ps1

After that, press Y to confirm running the script.

When you are asked for the backup directory(this is used to ensure that your device remains bootable if anything goes wrong), enter

C:\2

Press Enter.

Wait till your PC restarts.

After that, if you check for updates, the update should install successfully.

I right clicked on the 1.ps1 file, but I couldn't get it to download. Where can I find this file.

I have been frustrated by this broken update too. It keeps appearing in my update list, trying to install, and failing.

Some digging this evening revealed that I didn't even have a Windows Recovery Partition. The key info was from this list of known issues from an early accepted answer on one of the original threads on the subject.

It said:

"Important: If your Windows device does not have a recovery environment configured, you do not need this update (KB5034440). In this case, the error can be ignored.

To determine whether your device has a recovery environment configured, inspect the WinRE status by following these steps:

1. ​Open a Command Prompt window (cmd) as admin.
2. ​To check the WinRE status, run reagentc /info. If the WinRE is configured, a "Windows RE status" field will appear in the output, with value "Enabled". If WinRE is not configured, this field will have the value "Disabled"."

I wasn't happy with the suggestion that I could just ignore it so I tracked down an article about Microsoft's "Show or Hide Updates Tool" and used it to attempt to banish KB5034441. It still shows in Settings -> Windows Updates with the "Error Encountered" blurb, but I'm hoping a reboot will make Windows ignore it rather than me having to. Fingers crossed.

KB50334441 doesn't install ????

No wonder some people hate Microsoft with passion. This is inexcusable.

This KB5034441 lingering problem is making me hate Microsoft. It's now APRIL and it

still errors out. The fixes offered don't work.

There is zero excuse because MS said Win 10 would be supported until 2025.
