frustrating update of KB5034441

No wonder some people hate Microsoft with passion. This is inexcusable.

No script available as others have said

Tried partitioning Windows RE (recovery) to greater than 1 GB. Didn't work for me.

Tried and am just listing in case other people want to try but none worked for me. Restart the computer after the change.
Press Win + X and choose Command Prompt (Admin).

• Type the following commands one by one and press Enter after each: net stop wuauserv net stop cryptSvc net stop bits net stop msiserver ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old net start wuauserv net start cryptSvc net start bits net start msiserver

Close the Command Prompt and check if the issue is resolved.

Didn't work for me

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:

• Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

Click on Additional troubleshooters and run the Windows Update troubleshooter.

Repair .NET Framework:

• Sometimes issues with .NET Framework can cause this error. You can try repairing it:
  • Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  • Locate Microsoft .NET Framework and right-click on it.
  • Choose Change or Repair and follow the prompts.

1. Check System Files:
   • Open Command Prompt (Admin) again.
   • Run the following commands: sfc /scannow dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
   • Restart your computer and check for updates.
2. Install Updates in Clean Boot State:
   • Perform a clean boot to start Windows with minimal services and startup programs.

Then try installing the updates again.

Oh well

It is now nearly April 2024 !!!

But today again get hit by 0x80070643... As stupid and frustrating it look like, but sadly true. So I dig up the internet :P and follow the solution provided here. Script checked it and confirm that the size is enough.

So basically - not needed to change anything.

And yet - still 0x80070643...

SOLUTION !!! For people that already had resized their recovery partition!

"To resolve this error, a user pointed out on Reddit that you can uninstall the older update installed in October 2023 and reinstall it again through this month's push of the KB5001716 update.

To uninstall the KB5001716 update, go into Settings > Apps, and under Apps & features, scroll down until you see the update, click on it, and then click on Uninstall"

After that restart your PC and proceed with update. Works for me on my 2 PC. :)

I still get error: "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070643)", when I try to do update KB5034441. Update seems to download fine, but "Status: Installing" remains at 0% until above error appears. My Healthy (Recovery Partition) is 571MB.
