I also disabled my antivirus and tried again still did not work And I keep getting error (0x80070643) Is this a known issue? All the other updates installed fine without issue.

From what I found "this update addresses a security vulnerability that could allow attackers to bypass BitLocker encryption by using Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). For more information, see CVE-2024-20666."

Does that mean that this security update only apply to computers with Bitlocker encryption enabled on the drive? Bitlocker is not enabled by default and has to be specifically enabled so I'm guessing this security patch is of no value to a large majority of people running windows?

What worked for me was re-sizing the WinRE partition to 1 GB.

A very large number of users are reporting a failure in downloading this update (KB5034441). There are suggestions to increase the size of the recovery partition to allow the update to succeed. This is a complicated and possibly risky procedure and many are saying it does not work. Microsoft will most likely remove the update or apply a fix.

    Hey GW 2003,

This may be "a complicated and possibly risky procedure" but it did work for me.

The Protection updates option didn't appear for me until I clicked to 'enable period scans'. Once you do that, you get the rest of the options you listed.

Unfortunately, I'm still getting error (0x80070643) after updating Windows Defender. Oh well.

    Thanks Elise,

Seems like a dodgy solution, but it did work!
