Update KB5034441 fails to install

I can tell you guys right now what is going wrong, and it has annoyed me for the longest time. Because the drive our operating system is on is not disk 0, this update keeps failing. This nonsensical system of letting the motherboard choose the disk number, and it always choosing SSDs plugged into the SATA ports as the first numbers is so annoying, especially when most people put their operating systems on the faster NVME drives, but these drive slots never get designated as disk0 on the system.

So this particular update keeps trying to look for a Windows Recovery Environment on disk 0, and keeps failing to find one if people have Windows installed on their NVME drives which never get labelled as disk 0, so the update just simply fails every time.

If you tell the update to stop trying to look for Windows Recovery Environment ONLY on disk 0, maybe the update will finally work.

This is my issue as well.... NVME drive is the boot drive and a regular SSD SATA drive is my storage in my laptop.

The other problem is that the WUSHOWHIDE won't display the update, yet Windows Update tries to download and install it, even after wiping out the SoftwareDistribution folder. SO ANNOYING!

We're on 2 weeks of this cr4p! Come on Microsoft, this is clearly a major issue - get off your buts and fix this! (hate it when you can't curse). hehe

I have not done anything waiting on Microsoft to get there you know what together. You start messing around trying to do what they tell you to do you're going to be in more trouble. They sound out another fix it today and it's no good either they said just leave a go they will try to fix things later. Yeah yeah yeah we've heard this before good luck to all I would stop messing with your computers and wait till you get your computer hacked and then we can all Sue microsoft!

The chances of being hacked for this one are low, actually it shouldn't have been pushed in that way everyone. Is not like a hacker from Rusia randomly by internet is going to take over your PC.

Most people in W10 don't have BitLocker; Home users don't have it, just some in in Pro and some don't have that REpartition, MS says then those people can't be hacked (even if they use Bitlocker).

And for the few that have BitLocker enabled; the vulnerability needs physical access to your PC.

So KB5034441 may only be important for companies with many PCs with W10 pro and bitlocker, sensitive information on them and some bad willed person with the knowhow having access to the devices, a very unlikely scenario for Avera Joe.

unless of course MS is lying and not telling us something why they are so stubborn pushing this lazy flop of update on everyone in that rushed way.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea because usually I get updates and there is not much of a problem. I am running 500/500Mb/s internet and I had trouble when that update appeared to not update going from one website to another or back to update/security section. I read about the update and there are a half a dozen problems that could arise. One being run the troubleshooter and it pointed out for me to re-start. Going there 5 times a day now in hope the 4441 update would either finally disappear or fixed. Then the sitting for 30+ minutes after restart and read that to just wait instead of powering off. Until last year I have never done a scf scannow after some blue screen problems and also running a program to fix it. One was with RAM problems. One of the programs took over an hour. So after the blue screen problems which seemed to have been repaired we get the 4441 that won't update along with all the fixes some have touted that do not work (YT).

Not exactly - since the failed update, I can no longer start my University VPN (yes, we use Bitlocker). This is nothing to do with the recovery partition, either.
