KB5034441 update problem, error (0x80070643).

I have tried to update and I get error 0x80070643 with update KB5034441. I have tried uninstalling the Windows update, restarting the Windows Uptade service, deleting the update files and I have also run the following commands:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess

DISM /Online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

sfc /scannow

chkdsk C: /f

But nothing has fixed the problem

The update KB5034441 failed with a fatal error when staging the WIM. This is due to a lack of free space in the WinRE partition. KB5034441: Windows Recovery Environment update for Windows 10, version 21H2 and 22H2: January 9, 2024 - Microsoft Support

Resizing the Recovery partition to 750 MB resolves the issue. That applies if you use the Windows-default winre.wim.

For OEM-supplied winre.wim (which has additional drivers and packages), ensure the Recovery partition's size is atleast 100 MB more than the size of the custom wim.

Note: The above MS article works only if your Recovery partition is situated next to (i.e., right side) the OS partition. You can check the disk layout by opening Disk Management.

 

(Based on what I've noticed on the forums, many users have decided to skip/hide the KB5034441 update and wait and see if Microsoft releases a fix.)

After command SFC /scannow
& resize of WinRE to 1GB, managed to get this update working. 👍

    But you shouldn't have too for a security update, a company the size and scope of Microsoft with its highly skilled staff shouldn't be pushing untested updates on customers that simply don't work.

    My problem was I really didn't like the process described in KB5028997. I find the number of steps involved and the deletion of the existing, otherwise healthy WinRE partition a little scary, especially considering the included note warning that the partition (re)creation may 'fail'.

    It seems to me that it might be safer to simply shrink the existing O/S partition slightly (like by 500MB - 1GB or so) and then expand the existing recovery partition into the resulting unallocated space.

    In my case, my C: drive's recovery partition was about 500 MB in size, (which was apparently 150 MB short of the minimum recommended size of 650 MB). I decided to increase my recovery partition's size to about 1 GB.

    Agree completely that Microsoft should fix the problem. Seniors like me don't understand the instructions for the fix and don't want to mess up their computer by attempting to follow all this jargon. Since it is a security fix, I'm especially concerned my computer could be a hackers target. Surely Microsoft has enough genius's that can get it done.

    I am advanced PC user, but I refuse to touch partitions. And what about total beginners? You can't be serious with this answer
