Windows update (KB5034441) Error (0x80070643)

Just to be clear: It is the Operating System Partition that you need to shrink, NOT the Recovery Partition. This makes room on the Operating System Disk (Usually Disk 0) to increase the size of the new, larger Recovery Partition. This is critical and is something that is not so clear in KB5028977. This has been a place where mistakes are made with the process of increasing the size of your Recovery Partition. KB5028997 is a good place to start, with good advice to follow.

My suggested changes would be to change / edit / insert 1024MB in the Shrink Desired command from Diskpart. This will result in a final Recovery Partition size of 1000MB. So the Command to substitute is: shrink desired=1024 minimum=1024

Read through the other post comments on issues with the location of the Recovery Folders and Files that need to be in your Recovery Partition, and how to get them there. If you do not get these files in place, and use of the reagentc command properly, your efforts to create the larger Recovery Partition will not be successful, and the files will not be where they are needed to complete the update.

Can't say if someone gave you this information, I haven't read all the conversations.

I only can say that at my company, I had this issue and the only thing that have worked on more than 15 PC running Windows 10, managed by Desktop Central, Azure and a lots of politics, is shrinking the recovery partition.

Tips:

• In some cases, 512MB would do it, some other cases I had to elevate the recovery partition size up to 1GB.
• If you want, do the math and rise the number directly to 1GB. For example: If I have 250MB for the recovery partition, I'd shrink it to 1Gb with: "Run shrink desired=750 minimum=750". At the end, that is what I did (instead of incrementing the size by 250 every time.)

But how? Diskpart can not shrink partitions to the right hand side. If recovery partition is located before the boot one (like in my case), the only option is to delete it and recreate after the boot. This is risk the PC owner need to participate in mitigation - at least by making a full system backup prior of these operations. Security has a price.

I've made the suggested changes on multiple systems both at home and in the office... and of all systems, only 1 has worked. This update is a joke and we are now months down the line and still not fixed.

Microsoft, you folks are making squillions of dollars every day. Your operating system is the most widely used on the planet. It is incumbent on you to fix this issue and not expect inexperienced users to make advanced system coding changes to work around your poor update.
