Windows update (KB5034441) Error (0x80070643)

When I tried to install the windows update "2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441)" I received the error code (0x80070643).

I have already tried, restarting my computer, waiting a bit before retrying, running a memory diagnostic check, checking all my drivers for updates, installing optional updates, and running a malware scan.

When I tried to run the windows update troubleshooter it said "diagnosing problems" but never fixed them and I was still unable to install the update after running the trouble shooter.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Sounds like you are not shrinking your OS Partition properly (hopefully you have some room to do this on the OS Partition). Try starting over, before you do read through the 30 pages of comments, you will see some that give some additional info on the process, and some suggestions on the wrong commands. If you have an MBR Drive, you need to do some additional steps as the Partition ID setting is not quite right. It is also possible that reagentc is not working at all because of missing files.

    You could download the Mini Tool Partition program and do the shrinking and expanding and ID change with it. These steps are free and kindof easy. I could send you my response on how to manually make the changes in Dispart, not sure what page it is on. If your not so up on working with Diskpart, you may want to do the method below. Be careful either way to assure you do not loose your Windows Programs (apps).

    Another suggestion:

    I read this method online and it seemed to make sense . This guy recommended reinstalling Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool . It worked for him and it worked for me . Essentially you will reinstall the latest version of Windows 10 which , for me , made room for all the updates that come with the new version installation . It took me 5 hours but all updates downloaded successfully after the reinstall. You go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10  and you want Create Windows 10 installation Media and then Download Now . I DID NOT DO A CLEAN INSTALL . I opted to keep my files and apps (but backed up everything before I tried this not knowing the outcome ) . I went to the control panel to verify that (KB5034441) had indeed downloaded . Success! My logic for trying this was that Microsoft would ,in the latest version , anticipate the amount of space needed for existing updates , including the problem child , (KB5034441).

    I had the same issue, but decided to resize NTFS partition by using MiniTool Partition Wizzard Free https://cdn2.minitool.com/?p=pw&e=pw-free 

    I am not associated with MiniTool in any way, however using this free software is by far more easy and convenient than typing commands, therefore anyone could apply the fix.

    Simply select WInOS partition and decrese (resize/move - right click above the partition gives menu) it by minimum 250 MB (or larger) then move FAT partition to the left (if exists) and than again resize (increase) NTFS partition. Mini Tool will require restart to apply changes.

    And Voila - it shoud work :)

    How do you know only partition 4 is used for Win RE? What are you seeing that tells you that? Simply that it's the first recovery partition?

    When Windows creates a recovery partition, it creates it next to itself.

    Partition 4 is already 812MB and so above the limit MS seem to imply. You think it needs to be 1GB? Why can KB5034441 not complete with 813MB already?

    The free space must be less than 250 MB regardless. Free space can be less than 250 MB on a partition of any size.

    Why not delete them and use that space?

    They may be partitions to factory reset Windows.

    Can partitions 4, 5 and 6 all be deleted, reclaiming 12GB, extend partition 3 (C:) by 10 or even 11GB, and create a new 2 or 1GB recovery partition on the end of the disk and then rebuild using reagentc /enable

    Sure, but I wouldn't sacrifice them for 250 MB.

    Most of all run

    reagentc /disable

    right now to save the recovery image.

    You are right. I noticed the same thing on my MBR drive / older PC. I corrected as you did. Some of the online videos do correct this procedure for creating and identifying the Recovery Partition. All my GPT drives / newer PCs did identify the Partition right. Hopefully Microsoft will get this resolved on their next release.
