I am running Windows 10 Home 2004 (Build 19041.450). Windows Update notified me that there was a cumulative update available to install (2020-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4571756)). When I told it to install the update, it will download and go up to "Installing - 100%" and then just show this error: I've tried the following in an attempt to fix the error: Run "sfc /scannow" in an elevated command prompt Run "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:<Source of clean Windows 10 2004 ISO created using Windows Media Creation Tool> /LimitAccess" in an elevated command prompt Uninstall and reinstall NET framework 3.5 from "Turn Windows features on or off" in Control Panel Manually download the specific update from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it Stop the Windows Update service and delete the Windows Update cache located in "%SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistrubution", then restart the service Obviously, none of these worked so I'm looking for any other solutions to this problem. Any help is appreciated.

The Catalog page seems to work only intermittently at the moment. I used the one from Windows Update, under Optional Updates on two computers, which both installed normally for me yesterday. I wonder what is common to those computers where these CU installs are failing.

i contacted microsoft support and got online support. there was no solution but reinstall... so i did . reinstall worked. but we need better work on updates from microsoft. thanks for the tips. Rudi I have tried seven (7) different fixes, none of which worked. The last attempt included wiping out Pending Windows Updates, plus removing KB4576478 (Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8....), plus downloading the failed update directly from Microsoft and manually installing. NOTHING HAS WORKED. It's disappointing that, given the extent of this issue that appears to be caused by Microsoft, the Microsoft has remained SILENT and UNHELPFUL. I have wasted many hours, probably 15-20 hrs, trying every solution offered by the community, plus spent $40+ for software recommended by Microsoft that did not work. VERY SAD SITUATION.

Do not waist time money or agrevation on trying to install this update! Just let Microsoft know that it does not work and wait for October's patch! I tried every little thing that was suggested after I did a clean install and nothing worked! I'm on a metered connection and waisted almost 10 GB of my data to fix it! What pisses me off the most? Is that the update was downloaded 5 times to 100% and yet I had to start all over again each time! Why? In file sharing apps you start off where you left off, not start all over again! For all of you, do not waist one second ever again to fix a Microsoft problem! Just file the complaint and wait for the next patch! Give me back my XP!

I had a patch a few minutes ago that required a Reboot.. So I did. Kept fingers crossed and after the reboot, NO GO. KB4571756 is a failure. Waiting for Nov patch then.
