I am running Windows 10 Home 2004 (Build 19041.450). Windows Update notified me that there was a cumulative update available to install (2020-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4571756)). When I told it to install the update, it will download and go up to "Installing - 100%" and then just show this error: I've tried the following in an attempt to fix the error: Run "sfc /scannow" in an elevated command prompt Run "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:<Source of clean Windows 10 2004 ISO created using Windows Media Creation Tool> /LimitAccess" in an elevated command prompt Uninstall and reinstall NET framework 3.5 from "Turn Windows features on or off" in Control Panel Manually download the specific update from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it Stop the Windows Update service and delete the Windows Update cache located in "%SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistrubution", then restart the service Obviously, none of these worked so I'm looking for any other solutions to this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry to say, but the hopelessness with MS Updates continues even with this last and extreme step . After the in-place repair ran for around an hour, hit 87% progress, and then showed "The PC is restarting", then I get a prompt message that " Windows Installation has FAILED " No option but to click OK on that prompt. Then I restart the PC..... It shows the manufacturer logo....then goes on to show the Windows Logo (Blue) and the rotating dotted circle below it. It was stuck at that rotating circle for more than 20 minutes, and my breadth was hanging if I will ever get my Windows at least in the same working state as earlier..... Fortunately, it moved forward after the long wait. Showed login screen, and after login, this is what I see: What does this error indicate? Is there any fix for this??? It again sucked 400 MB of internet data.... Horrible experience, even with the extreme step.. Nothing works in Windows Update - have been suffering with these lousy updates several times over the past many years.....sometimes these updates crash the PC leading to data loss, sometimes they hit the net connectivity leaving one completely paralyzed...and absolutely no help available for months! Sorry, but it is pathetic on part of Microsoft for messing up the work, business and eventually the livelihoods of so many individuals like this. Why cant a simple fix be offered even though this issue is considerably old now?? My request to other fellows out there - Please don't try anything ....just let the updates remain stuck... Whatever is working so far may also stop with such trial and error. Just wait and wait and be at the mercy of MS, or go to Mac or Linux.... :-((((

Thanks Admin976 My ISP has data caps. However, I downloaded the media creation tool yesterday (around 20 hrs ago), and have created the ISO file. Will that ISO be good to use for in-place upgrade? If so, do we have a step-by-step guide to "make sure the setup installs all the latest CUs that are available before beginning the in-place upgrade"?? Many Thanks! That is sufficient. Make sure to select the checkbox "Download and Install the latest updates" when prompted. It shouldn't take more than 500MB data AFAIK.

If you already have a downloaded ISO then you needn't worry about the download taking up your precious internet plan. Just open the ISO, run setup.exe, make sure you enable it to check for updates before installing and you're good to go (of course, don't forget to choose the option which says "Keep my data and apps").

That is sufficient. Make sure to select the checkbox "Download and Install the latest updates" when prompted. It shouldn't take more than 500MB data AFAIK.
