I am running Windows 10 Home 2004 (Build 19041.450). Windows Update notified me that there was a cumulative update available to install (2020-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4571756)). When I told it to install the update, it will download and go up to "Installing - 100%" and then just show this error: I've tried the following in an attempt to fix the error: Run "sfc /scannow" in an elevated command prompt Run "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:<Source of clean Windows 10 2004 ISO created using Windows Media Creation Tool> /LimitAccess" in an elevated command prompt Uninstall and reinstall NET framework 3.5 from "Turn Windows features on or off" in Control Panel Manually download the specific update from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it Stop the Windows Update service and delete the Windows Update cache located in "%SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistrubution", then restart the service Obviously, none of these worked so I'm looking for any other solutions to this problem. Any help is appreciated.

I am afraid that anyone who has a pending CU failing to install ( hidden or otherwise ) can wait till hell freezes over before the 20H2 Feature Update ( actual enablement ) will be offered. Every time I check for updates I get "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes" because I have hidden the always failing KB4579311. Please let us know if you were able to get to 20H2 without re-install or upgrade.

So, I finally said "**** it" and downloaded the MediaCreationTool20H2.exe . After a couple of hours between downloading and installing, now everything is up-to-date. No updates show up after the first reboot. Let's hope the next updates don't take reinstalling this POS OS.

Hi I had the same problem for weeks now. I was subscribed to the windows insider program. Since weeks the Windows update was stuck in installation with exactly these error code. I tried to de- and reinstall the dot net packs as described before by others, but without a change. I tried told dism tool checks on update database and files integrity. No change and no inconsistencies or missing files were found. I knew I had preloaded the 20H2 update. It was marked as installed on the 16.08.2020 in my update history. Long talk simple meaning, deinstall the preloaded and "installed" update from middle of the year. Something is broken in that routines. I deinstalled the 20H1 or 20H2 related major updates I used the Microsoft Windows 10-Update-Assistent to update the (then) 2009 version to 20H2 No error occurred. The preloaded image or update installation was faulty somehow. I started the Windows 10-Update-Assistent before the deinstallation and it told me that I already had the 20H2 update. Still the Windows update daemon tried to install it over and over again. That helped me with the 0x800f081f error. Kind regards Daniel

You are wasting your time with this POS operating system, 5 years have passed and microsoft still can't get it working properly. It doesn't matter if it's wasted time, as most people have no other option but to try and update their computers. I've spent a good penny on a new machine simply because of the ill effects Windows 10 had on a system that was previously windows 7 and only used bios at boot up. I agree with the frustration and disgust with Windows 10, but until there is an absolute viable alternative, Win 10 is the only option.

Windows 10 October 2020 Update is now available for download. This is version 20H2 of Windows 10. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO If you were waiting for this to try to get the latest Cumulative Update installed, now you can try. Mount the new ISO file in Windows. This will create a new drive letter, from which you can run setup exe. By default it should also install the latest Cumulative Update. Windows 10 October 2020 Update is now available for download. This is version 20H2 of Windows 10.
