I am running Windows 10 Home 2004 (Build 19041.450). Windows Update notified me that there was a cumulative update available to install (2020-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4571756)). When I told it to install the update, it will download and go up to "Installing - 100%" and then just show this error: I've tried the following in an attempt to fix the error: Run "sfc /scannow" in an elevated command prompt Run "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:<Source of clean Windows 10 2004 ISO created using Windows Media Creation Tool> /LimitAccess" in an elevated command prompt Uninstall and reinstall NET framework 3.5 from "Turn Windows features on or off" in Control Panel Manually download the specific update from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it Stop the Windows Update service and delete the Windows Update cache located in "%SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistrubution", then restart the service Obviously, none of these worked so I'm looking for any other solutions to this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Windows has gone from being a gaming platform in to an advertising platform (when it works), we need some competition to give microsoft a kick up the ****, tbh win10 is a bloody awful os, even mac osx is better and thats really scraping the barrel. And im not interested in linux either, i dont want to write war and peace on my keyboard to install a simple driver, linux is reserved for nerds and incels Im in the same boat, ive spent a good £2,000 on a ryzen machine, and as it stands my machine may as well be used as a doorstop. Theres one sure way of stopping windows update from working ever again and thats if you remove windows defender with msmg toolkit or ntlite, in short if you screw with the iso update wont work. This is no coincidence, its done on purpose. These instances only make the common users more vulnerable to sabotages from crooked hackers. In a desperate attempt to find a working solution to the problem, the common users blindly start following the instructions posted on such online forums. A perfect recipe for disaster, if a wrong person provides wrong inputs for stealing/sabotaging the users machine and key info! SuperGods at MS don't want to understand this simple problem. Such a pity - no solution even in months!

So I was having the same issue and solved it by doing an in-place upgrade with a USB drive created using the MediaCreationTool2004

worked on 2 of my 3 laptops, continues to fail on 1. i have no idea what the difference is. Most interesting. I had the same results as you in that this update worked on two computers and this one, not so. I did the In Place Repair and it fixed several ongoing issues I had but weirdly enough, this particular update was not and has not be included. Checking the update history, everything installed successfully and it shows I'm up to day after numerous checks. It does appear the August update with this September update has got issues with certain computers and it's much like stepping into a bowl of oatmeal. Oh, by the way, don't try that. It makes a mess and causes a lot of disturbance in the home.
