I've asked you repeatedly if you did the Repair Install to Version 2004 because it was not made clear. If so then the files were reinstalled and should not be corrupted already unless something was done since then.

You can run System File Checker from Step 10 in this checklist:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki... to check on the condition of the System Files.

How is this update trying to reinstall itself bothering you or disrupting your work. The reason I ask this is that often if you let an update like this go for a week or more it will sort itself out. So unless it is causing you problems I would just wait and watch it. You already have the latest version. Not having an Update to the very latest version is not a worry at all. Only if it can't install for months, causes issues or you have other performance issues would I be that concerned.

2020-08 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64 (KB4570721)

    was successfully downloaded but...

    2020-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4566782)

Did you do the Repair Install using the latest media Version 2004 which should work better than a Reset and also saves your apps which the Reset will remove?

If so then go ahead and do the Reset as shown here: http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/reset-windows....

Be sure to back up your files and be prepared to reinstall your personal apps and programs.

There is also a better install following the gold standard Clean Install in this link which compiles the best possible Install of Windows which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

The reason I suggest this is that no one who has adopted the install in the above link has ever come back to report further problems I've seen, including another version failure. This is because everything in Windows 10 is dependent upon the quality of the install, especially Version Updates which will choke on lesser quality installs.

It is also one of life's great learning experiences that will permanently make you the master of your PC because you will learn everything that works best and how to keep it that way.
