KB4566782 Update Loop

To make the patch work after downloading it from the Microsoft Catalog, I performed the following Windows PowerShell (Admin) commands:

1. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
2. Afterwords I also ran the       sfc /scannow command to ensure the new image was errors free.
3. Then I applied the patch from the Microsoft Catalog. Make sure that the patch reflect your Windows version i.e. 64 bits or 32 bits.

My Windows Update issue was resolved and everything has been working fine since then.

I feel your frustrations. I suggest you try to make a deal with Microsoft for a one year cost free support.

However, my feeble eyes can no longer read the copious number of emails I continue to receive on this problem. We should also display some etiquette apropos. If you want to continue, please originate your own Microsoft Community query.

I did exactly the same as you before installing the manually downloaded patch and it still failed the same way as before. Sfc gave me some errors before restorehealth, but a clean bill after that.

Please read it correctly- it did work for me. I am only restating the action I took to fix the problem for my computer. I just repeated the procedure in case it was missed. My latest action was triggered due to the many posts on this issue. I apologize, if I caused more confusion.

I've tried that a couple weeks back and again after I read your previous post and it simply doesn't work. 

My question now is: how do I get that noticed about the failed update / retry out of there? I've deleted the files from within the Softwaredistribution / Downloads and I cannot get rid of it.

Please read it correctly- it did work for me. I am only restating the action I took to fix the problem for my computer. I just repeated the procedure in case it was missed. My latest action was triggered due to the many posts on this issue. I apologize, if I caused more confusion.

I've tried that a couple weeks back and again after I read your previous post and it simply doesn't work. 

My question now is: how do I get that noticed about the failed update / retry out of there? I've deleted the files from within the Softwaredistribution / Downloads and I cannot get rid of it. 

It is not possible to skip an update. I paused the updates for the next week(s} until a more recent version than August 10 2020 appears on the download site.

I took all the steps carefully this last time and it still gives me an error code (manual install).  

Here are all the steps I took which still did not work for me:

1.  dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

2. sfc /scannow

No problems found. 

Then I did the following in an Admin. cmd window:

3. net stop wuauserv

4. net stop cryptSvc
5. net stop bits
6. net stop msiserver

7.  Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

Note:  made sure the SoftwareDistrution folder no longer exists only SoftwareDistrubution.old by looking in Explorer before going onto the next step

Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

Note:  made sure the catroot2 folder no longer existed only catroot2.old by looking in Explorer before going onto the next step

8. net start wuauserv

9.  net start cryptSvc

10.  net start bits

11.  net start msiserver

Then I went to System Information to confirm my system was x64 and proceeded to down the correct version from Windows Update Catalog, KB4566782.

Then I double clicked the downloaded file and after it was complete I still am not able to install and get the following failed update message:

I had Automatic Update Settings suspended when I did this, so when I turn this back on it still tries to download the update, so it was not installed.  

I then let the Automatic Update try again and it fails.  It gets installed at 100% and within a minute it comes back with the error (see screen shots below).  I have done this several times now.

WHAT NEXT CAN I TRY?  

Should I try this without suspending automatic updates?  Is there anything else I can try?  I keep the automatic updates suspended now as otherwise it bogs my laptop down and leads to 100% disk usage for most of the time.

So leaving it there in suspended animation, what happens to this when the next update comes along? Does the new udpate just get rid of this present one?
