My laptop is running Windows 10 2004 OS build 19041.388 and windows update decides to automatically install cumulative update KB4566782 (build 19041.450). The installation will fail (0x800f081f) during updating Windows and Windows update automatically retry to install it until my laptop's battery dies.

How get out of this update loop?

update: We need a true solution, and please do not mark reinstalling windows 10 as an answer, dear moderators.

KB4566782 2020-08 Cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 2004 x64 failed to install generating Error Code: 0x800f081f. The Diagnostic Viewer reported  an APPCRASH in Application: wuauclt.exe V. 10.0.19041.329 and the Fault Module was: ntdll.dll V. 10.0.19041.207. I performed an sfc / scannow and it did not find any corruption. I restarted the CPU and retried to reapply the patch with the same results.

Is it possible for Microsoft to address this issue. Thank you.

    Hello #Parth,

I am Antonio, a Microsoft Community independent advisor, a Windows 10 and Microsoft office user like you. I hope I can help you on your concern.

To be able to assist you properly, I would like to ask few questions from you, please see below:

    1. You mentioned you got a cumulative update on 08-20, do you know what's the KB# for that update?
    2. Do you have any anti-virus installed?

Please try this method to fix the issue:

    1. Try reset Windows update components:
    2. Right click on the start button and select Powershell (admin) or Command Prompt (admin)
    3. Write the next hit enter after each line.

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    1. Restart and try again.

If the above method does not help, please download manually the cumulative update on the link below. You should know the KB # for that update and search it on the link. After downloading the cumulative update file, please try to manually install it.

You're response is highly appreciated. Please let me know if the issue is fixed, if not, we will find another way.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

    Keep safe always.

    Sincerely,

    Antonio

Please advise as what I should do. Thanks.
