KB4566782 Update Loop

Does B1tbull know I got the update and it installed? I can't believe that the update was resent to me and not everyone else. My getting a case number in an email from them should not have mattered . I wonder if anyone besides me got the update a second time and it installed.

Did you consider doing what I did to get a case number? If I hadn't got it, I wouldn't have done anything else as all one should have to do with a new update is click on install.

I resumed Windows update minutes ago , and KB4566782 still fails to install.

I downloaded the update from the MS site also minutes ago : 

Windows10.0-kb4566782-x64_cb0654ccf595c514c722ba79c5aad2567ee0ff45.msu dated August 10 2020 and it equally fails to install.

I rest my case for now and postponed updates for the next 2 weeks.

I  went to the Microsoft website and clicked on the link below and the virtual agent told me to go through some steps I had tried earlier and pretty much knew wouldn't hurt my computer. Then the virtual gent told me to do something else which I refused to do because I read that Microsoft couldn't be held responsible if anything went wrong. The virtual agent then said would you like to communicate with an employee. via the internet and I replied yes. Agent said wait and then I was connected to an employee. After the employee knew about not being able to install the update, he said he would like to do a remote and for me to remove any personal files. I said NO to the remote control (told a fib that didn't have time to do one) but could he give me something else I could try on my own, He gave me something to try but it was related to getting auto update which I have had for years so never tried,

Then I received an email with a case number--- I guess my  problem was reported.

On August 14, 2020 I saw a popup message from Microsoft that I had a pending update to install and it was that update (Update KB4566782).  I clicked on INSTALL and got the update. 

I'm glad I never tried all the things some wanted me to do and had decided prior to the successful installation I would rather do without it. I asked Robert Mumps if he got the update and still as far as I know hasn't. He agrees with me it's best not to try all the things suggested but just wait.

I've left the Update alone and won't check it again till Toony Tuesday, OH PARDON ME, I mean Patch Tuesday in September! If you don't hear from me after that Holly, you'll know there was a minor explosion within my laptop because of another try with the updates!  :-)

I've left this thing alone Holly, simply because most of the time, these fellows who are supposed Microsoft agents haven't a clue. Somehow, you managed to get one who apparently did something for you but I'll leave this alone till the next update. It's been too time consuming looking around for supposed answers.  :-)

To the member who said that they have a problem installing every update and if doing a repair install was the only answer they would not do it since they would need to reinstall after each update.  In my humble opinion, there is (was) a problem with that update and MS should have tested it better before releasing it.  They seem to have a problem getting these updates bug free and that is absolutely ridiculous with the size of the company and the talent they have.  I believe that something with that update broke the Windows update service on some computers and repeated attempts to install the update will not work until the root problem is fixed.  If you are having a problem with every update then the update function on your computer is broken, and until you fix that problem you will always get errors.  If resetting the Windows update does not work, then a repair update is required and it re-installs the operating system with new files (not corrupted) and you can keep all of your files and apps without having to restore them, and at least in my case when I did the re-install, the update then installed correctly.

To the member who is concerned about too many writes to their SSD, you should not be concerned about this if you have a good SSD and you checked its specs before buying, then you should be ok and not worry.  In my case, my Corsair MP510 1TB has a TBW rating of 1700 TB.  In the fourteen months I have had it, I have averaged 13GB/day of writes and that includes the the initial install, the repair install I did and an entire disk restore one time.  A normal day of writes is about 5GB.  At that rate, the SSD should last 300+ years.  It is not an issue.  Just make sure you have Windows trim function turned on to keep the SSD clean.
