Microsoft flight simulator 2020 won't open, directed to Microsoft store instead.

I recently installed the new Microsoft flight simulator 2020 update and now when ever i try to run it i am directed to gaming services in the Microsoft store which i already have installed i have tried running the simulator as administrator, and i have also tried reinstalling gaming services, neither of which worked. 

Can anyone help?

My pc specs:

Ryzen 5 2600

16GB DDR4 Ram 

Radeon RX580 graphics card

Windows 10 pro 64-bit (latest update)

Windows for home | Windows 10 | Gaming

I had the same issue. It just appeared over the last few days. This fixed it for me:

  • Settings -> Apps & Features -> Search for "Gaming Services" -> Advanced Options -> Repair

I was then able to open Flight Sim again.

Hello Grooner,

Would you be able to do a step by step on how to re-link the small download location to the folder where the program was installed?  Mine was 1.39GB, and I have the actual program installed on a different drive as well.

  1. "This re-installed just the small client as the bulk of the download is in a separate folder. I had this on a different drive to the default so I had to browse to relink the folder."

If you repair and reset flight sim then:

  • Flight Sim small client will need to be reinstalled from the xbox app

When you launch flight sim it will:

  • Sync your settings

If you downloaded the 100GB data to a different folder it will;:

  • Stop at Set Your Experience - Installation Manager

  But the Folder shown will be the default and it will ask to download the entire 100GB

You should 

  • Click Browse... and find the folder into which you previously downloaded the 100GB data, and click Select Folder

It will then show Checking For Updates

  • If flight sim has recently updated then click Update to download a few GB update only
  • Otherwise it will go to Main Menu

    Ok my most recent experience after 12.75GB update. Turn computer waith three minutes, touch nothing. Right click mouse and Open. In the usual 2 minutes a new picture of the Arizona Desert greets you. Things sorta start out normal until I try to take off in a Diamond DA 20. With the throttle to the wall it barely gives me 400 fpm climb out on the verge of the stall horn. Tried to land a 747 and the throttles stopped working many miles out before landing. Tried to do a touch or land and stop but no reverse thrust, cleared out a really nice runway extension on north runway at CYXU. There’s someting fishy going on, hope they get a handle in it soon.

    I had to do a system restore, and after that I had to reload some game files, but when clicking on the game shortcut, only get a black screen. The only way for it to run is to go into Xbox console companion and run it from there.

    This problem is astill alive and kicking on Dec 1st - It is absurd that MS, Asobo and Steam have not yet sorted out the problems of downloading and installation. I have wasted 4 days so far , bought two versions of FS2020 and still do not have an intsalled product.

    Why WAS this released other than financial greed.

    The 15 MS techs I have spoken to so far have been useless - have not even been able to keep a live connection despite having my phone number and email to get back to me.

    Come on Guys Put your BIg BOy Trousers on and get problem solving - That's what we expect of you!
