Microsoft flight simulator 2020 won't open, directed to Microsoft store instead.

I recently installed the new Microsoft flight simulator 2020 update and now when ever i try to run it i am directed to gaming services in the Microsoft store which i already have installed i have tried running the simulator as administrator, and i have also tried reinstalling gaming services, neither of which worked. 

Can anyone help?

My pc specs:

Ryzen 5 2600

16GB DDR4 Ram 

Radeon RX580 graphics card

Windows 10 pro 64-bit (latest update)

Windows for home | Windows 10 | Gaming

I had the same issue. It just appeared over the last few days. This fixed it for me:

  • Settings -> Apps & Features -> Search for "Gaming Services" -> Advanced Options -> Repair

I was then able to open Flight Sim again.

Hello Grooner,

Would you be able to do a step by step on how to re-link the small download location to the folder where the program was installed?  Mine was 1.39GB, and I have the actual program installed on a different drive as well.

  1. "This re-installed just the small client as the bulk of the download is in a separate folder. I had this on a different drive to the default so I had to browse to relink the folder."

If you repair and reset flight sim then:

  • Flight Sim small client will need to be reinstalled from the xbox app

When you launch flight sim it will:

  • Sync your settings

If you downloaded the 100GB data to a different folder it will;:

  • Stop at Set Your Experience - Installation Manager

  But the Folder shown will be the default and it will ask to download the entire 100GB

You should 

  • Click Browse... and find the folder into which you previously downloaded the 100GB data, and click Select Folder

It will then show Checking For Updates

  • If flight sim has recently updated then click Update to download a few GB update only
  • Otherwise it will go to Main Menu

    Thank You for your reply. I went to Windows and did a Windows 10 update that took an hour and a half. Tried MSFS 2020, no luck. Shut down then start up, right clicked the icon and Voila a 12.75 GB update for MSFS for the game including “ Stability Issues”. Had to leave for work, I see if it opens again after update.

    I saw a YouTube video and he suggested if moving files out of your community folder into a temp location, then go to the store and run it from there instead of loading the program first.  

    Once installed then move your community files back..

    Same issue here. Click Icon to run Flight Sim and it opens up Microsoft Store. It says Gaming Services is already installed but wants to install again I guess. Try that and it does absolutely nothing. Tried everything else in this thread with exception of uninstalling/reinstalling FS and nothing has worked. WTH Microsoft? Why aren't you chiming in with a solution to all our problems with getting FS to run.  You enticed us to purchase this program now where is the support?????  Unacceptable. I've been flying your simulators since the very first FS came out. Looks like I may have to go back to X-Plane.
