Microsoft flight simulator 2020 won't open, directed to Microsoft store instead.

I recently installed the new Microsoft flight simulator 2020 update and now when ever i try to run it i am directed to gaming services in the Microsoft store which i already have installed i have tried running the simulator as administrator, and i have also tried reinstalling gaming services, neither of which worked. 

Can anyone help?

My pc specs:

Ryzen 5 2600

16GB DDR4 Ram 

Radeon RX580 graphics card

Windows 10 pro 64-bit (latest update)

Windows for home | Windows 10 | Gaming

I had the same issue. It just appeared over the last few days. This fixed it for me:

  • Settings -> Apps & Features -> Search for "Gaming Services" -> Advanced Options -> Repair

I was then able to open Flight Sim again.

Hello Grooner,

Would you be able to do a step by step on how to re-link the small download location to the folder where the program was installed?  Mine was 1.39GB, and I have the actual program installed on a different drive as well.

  1. "This re-installed just the small client as the bulk of the download is in a separate folder. I had this on a different drive to the default so I had to browse to relink the folder."

If you repair and reset flight sim then:

  • Flight Sim small client will need to be reinstalled from the xbox app

When you launch flight sim it will:

  • Sync your settings

If you downloaded the 100GB data to a different folder it will;:

  • Stop at Set Your Experience - Installation Manager

  But the Folder shown will be the default and it will ask to download the entire 100GB

You should 

  • Click Browse... and find the folder into which you previously downloaded the 100GB data, and click Select Folder

It will then show Checking For Updates

  • If flight sim has recently updated then click Update to download a few GB update only
  • Otherwise it will go to Main Menu

    I had microsoft support fix mine.  They opened up a run window and ran WSRESET and it reset the microsoft store and then program downloaded.

    My 32Gig machine with 2-2Gig video cards freezes during download with a "Memory_Management" message.  What's the problem?  Also, before the download starts I get a "your machine doesn't meet the software requirements.  You might have issues with the game running."  What's the problem, and how do I find out what my machine is missing?

    This is absurd. This is the second time a Flight Simulator update has caused my install to stop working. It just keeps taking me back to Microsoft Store where I see "This product is installed..." Yah no S**T, so how about you let me start the app. Uninstall and install again appears to be the only solution which is absurd and waste of hours of my time.

    I think it's related to installing the game into a secondary drive which is a removable SSD disk. Microsoft please fix this, this is so aggravating.
