Will Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 support multiple monitors?

For example, one monitor for instruments, another for front view, one for left, and one for right?

This is opposed to one view being spread over two monitors.

You can span the display using Nvidia's Surround, which is part of the Nvidia control panel.

There is something similar to this if you are using an AMD video card.

At present, FS2020 DOES NOT allow you to open new additional windows for separate instruments, views, etc., like it did in FSX.

Hopefully Microsoft will address this in the future, and make this benefit available, ... although I doubt it, because the software is designed to mainly run under an XBOX single window environment (using either a PC as in XBOX Beta for PC or on an XBOX console.)

I'm currently running FS2020 using three screens with a resolution of 5760 x 1200, and FS2020 runs fine across these three monitors which are in Nvidia's Surround (so it looks like one big, very wide screen monitor.) And this works great, EXCEPT it would be nice to be able to open up another window for just the instruments, like I could do under FSX.

One of the trade-offs, of going with the much, much, much more advanced FS2020 software.

Interesting that you got this to work. I have 3 Dell S2716DG (2560x1440 @144Hz) monitors connected via display ports to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080.

I setup Surround like I normally do, started FS2020, options->video change res to 7680x1440. The intro screen handles that but crashes to the desktop as soon as I try to load a training mission. Tried restarting but got the same result and had to edit the ...appdata\roaming\microsoft flight simulator\UserCfg.opt file to change the resolution back then turned off Surround and restarted the game and all was well. I was thinking multiple monitor support wasn't yet implemented.

I'm wondering what the difference is. Maybe I could try setting up 2 monitors in the surround setup?

Also, there is a keyboard shortcut Right-Alt that said New UI Window?

Might this answer, "At present, FS2020 DOES NOT allow you to open new additional windows for separate instruments, views, etc.,"?

    Any ideas?

    Dear BitTron,

Thank you, I greatly appreciate your advice.

I hope the new Microsoft Flight Simulator adds support for multiple monitors in the future. I really liked being able to look left or right, as in a real plane.

I may just try running it on the 65" 4K monitor as a test.

VR may be a solution also.

I wonder if Track IR is a good solution or not.

    Thank you for your help.

So you can put monitors of the same resolution into a surround setup, and technically they don't even have to be the same size, but it probably will look strange. The ideal surround setup is to have 2, 3 or 4 monitors (depending on max resolutions supported by your card) that are of the same size and resolutions, and ideally can match the refresh rates of each other.

In my own setup, I have three brand new 4K ASUS 27" ProColor monitors in surround on an Nvidia RTX 2080, and two smaller monitors (not in the surround setup) that are on a separate 2070 card in my PC. I picked the new ASUS ProColor monitors because they have some of the thinnest bezels in the industry and are factory professional color calibrated (I do a lot of video and photographic work.)

So I have them setup as the three ASUS monitors across the top joined together perfectly, and then the two smaller monitors underneath that I use for separate images or to test for system performance and other benchmarking type utilities, when using certain high-end applications that require a lot of computing power (I'm using a new Ryzen 9 3950x CPU on a new ASUS x570 motherboard, and its a beast of a machine!)

But you can use different size monitors in Surround, as long as the resolutions are the same, but it will look strange.

The opposite of Surround, is to just setup your monitors as individual monitors (which was nice under FSX) because you could have different FSX windows opened on different monitors. That setup worked great. For example, dash on one monitor, front view over dash on another, side views on the other monitors and instruments on yet another monitor. I seriously doubt that the new MS FS2020 sim will have these capabilities because of its (full screen) XBOX environment on the PC, but who knows, maybe MS will somehow make this feature available in an upcoming update?

If anyone knows how to open up separate windows under the FS2020 version, I'd love to hear about it, because that's a great feature to have.

BTW, one other thing to keep in mind if you are using multiple cards under Nvidia, is to make sure you set the PhysX setting to use the most advanced card (rather then auto.) Select this BEFORE you setup the Surround.
