Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Installation Problems / Clarification

Hi,

I have been struggling with getting MSFS 2020 to install!

Pre-Purchased the Premium Deluxe Edition and i have a Windows 10 PC - and so far all attempts have failed at some point over the last 12 hours of trying.

First question - what is the order of installation that should be performed from the Microsoft Store across the items that are listed there in two parts:

  1. Manage - with just one entry "Microsoft Flight Simulator: Premium Deluxe" and
  2. Bundle Contents - that lists four sub-parts

2.1 "Microsoft Flight Simulator"

2.2 "Flight Simulator Deluxe Upgrade"

2.3 "Flight Simulator Premium Deluxe Upgrade"

2.4 "Digital Ownership"

Is there a particular order or hierarchy that these need to be installed?

i.e. do each of the sub-parts of point 2 above need to be installed individually and prior to the first part (i.e. point 1), or does installing the first (Managed) install all the others?

So far the downloads have been erratic, and i installed the first part and then launched it, it started up and then froze, and then crashed on restart. When trying to install the sub-parts, the computer just site there with "working" displayed on the sub-part line.

This is really frustrating!

Anyone able to provide some guidance or point to a set of instructions on how to get MSFS2020 installed?

thanks!

Not sure about the specifications of your computer, anyway it sounds as though the issue you are facing has a lot to do with the way the Simulator is configured around the specifications of your computer. Regardless, I have faced some of these issues until I really spent some time with the simulator configuration pages, especial Under the GENERAL tab.

Here are my computer specifications, and following is the Simulator settings I am currently using. In addition, my internet speed is 450Gbps. I have also run this same configuration at 250Gbps. All my flights are in Live Mode.

    OS: Windows 10 Pro

    Microprocessor: Intel Core i9-10900K CPU @ 3.7GHz

    Memory: 64GB memory Kingston 3200MHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti

    Resolution: 4096 x 2160

Audio: I use JBL Quantum 800* Game via 2.4GHz wireless

    Simulator Version: 1.13.17.0 (just released)

NOTE: My suggestion here is to go into each of these Option, place your cursor over the setting and READ the DESCRIPTION. Use your best judgement and decide ehat you Really Need and separate those from the wants to give the Computer a Chance. I still at times have to change the settings based on aircraft type, and flight. I currently am doing the Idaho North, Central, and South Bush Trips that I purchased.

    OPTIONS MENU

    GENERAL

GRAPHICS. (this is what I think is KEY with many performance issues)

Under PC selection (First option under SEARCH

    Display Mode: FULLSCREEN

Full Screen Resolution: 4096X2160 (most likely 3840X2160 but this depends on the Display/Displays)

    Global Rendering: High End

    ADVANCED SETTINGS

    V-Sync: ON

    Frame Rate Limit: 60FPS

    Render Scaling: 100

    Anti-Aliasing: TAA

    Terrain Level of Detail: 100

    Terrain Vector Data: HIGH

    Buildings: High

    Trees: High

    Grass and Bushes: High

    Objects Level of Detail: 100

    Volumetric Clouds: High

    Texture Resolution:High

    Anisotropic Filtering: 8X

    Texture SuperSampling: 6x6

    Texture Synthesis: High

    Water Waves: High

    Shadow Maps: 1536

    Terrain Shadows: 512

    Contact Shadows: High

    Windshield Effects: High

    Ambient Occlusion: High

    Reflections: High

    Light Shafts: High

    Bloom: ON

    Depth of Field: High

    Motion Blue: High

    Lens Correction: OFF

    Lens Flare: ON

    Glass Cockpit Refresh Rate: Medium

    Flight Model

    Global Preset Intermediate

Everything else is at the defaults.

NOTE: Make Sure to [F11] Apply & Save

Note: I have used Ultra Setting but found I had to change a whole lot of settings to both medium and high values, as well as low.

If I do begin to have lags or pauses, what I do is decide what is not that important in the graphics setup and has an impact on performance, then I lower those settings.

Good luck, and enjoy the flights.

    BTW, I also have connected:

    Logitech Yoke and Throttle system

    Logitech Rudder Pedals

    Logitech Radio Panel

    Logitech Switch Panel

    Logitech Muti Function Panel

Almost Forgot ONE very Important Point...

If you change the GLOBAL RENDERING QUALITY, all self selected values below that will be reset to the defualts under that in Advanced Section. This means, make sure to do fine adjustments under the Advanced area.

If you actually want Microsoft to answer questions regarding MSFS2020, there is a forum, as set of FAQs, and a help desk, especially set up for people in your position.

    Visit https://www.flightsimulator.com/.

If you DON'T want your questions answered, or if you don't like the answers that you are getting, then keep posting here.

PLEASE Microsoft - ANSWER THIS QUESTION.

If you want Microsoft to answer this question, you are USING THE WRONG SITE.

MSFS 2020 is a joint Microsoft / Asobo project, and has a support site dedicated to the sim at https://www.flightsimulator.com/, where Microsoft, Asobo, and most of the tech supporters among the user base go to ask their questions. If your question can be answered, that is where you will find the support you need, not here.

I tried support , no help just some generic answer. End up paying another standaard version in the ms store. Now its working all fine.  So payed the full game by buying ingame AND direcr from the ms store.. Payed twice , works fine. Sucks , but im done with headache all the time

So you didn't raise a support request on the Zendesk, then? Go back to the REAL support site (https://www.flightsimulator.com/), click "Forums", then up at the top, click "Support". Then at the top of the Support page, use the option "Submit a Request".

From there, you will be in an interactive menu to find out whether your problem has already been reported and rectified. If the answer is still "NO" (or rather "HELL NO!") then raise a support request.

They'll get back to you fairly quickly (24 hours in my experience).

    THEN

Log into the forums and create a bug thread describing what you have just told the Support team (a copy / paste of your support desk entry works), and submit it. Don't forget to quote the Support Docket number in your post.

Hi im having issues with micro stuttering with msfs 2020

Is there a reason why as im getting to a point I just want to delete it.

It was running OK untill last update

But now lile other im having issues.

For an expensive game the bugs or problems shouldn't exist.

Couldn’t agree more!! Microsoft should be ashamed at this attempt at a simulator. In the 2 months I’ve had it I’ve downloaded over 80gb of patches and fixes. Bit like buying a car then finding out the wheels aren’t available for 12 months. Absolutely disgusting.

If you have their recommended spec for a PC, forget it. You need something way more powerful to get anywhere!

An answer for you? Well, mine’s being left well alone for a year or so until they (might?) put their house in order.

When you purchased it you KNEW that it was new, you should have known that the technology wasn't well bedded down, and you should have realized that it wasn't a completely finished product (then what software product ever reaches a polished, completed state, before it's shipped out the door.

The actual size of it should have given you an inkling of how BIG, in terms of code, that the sim is, and hence its complexity.

And IMHO, it was ready for the enthusiast to take on, but not the user who can't handle the odd bug, major or minor.

Currently I'd love to be in your position, because currently I'm unable to run it at all, because it doesn't load completely for me.

Sure, I could fly around, but at the expense of lots of missing scenery and other add-ons.

So I don't - I'm spending a lot of my time working with fans, and the support ZenDesk, to find a definitive answer to my problem, so that perhaps it can be of use to others, or of use to the guys and gals at Asobo / Microsoft, who, quite frankly, need all the help that they can get.

    Why so many extra downloads?

Well, some of them are, as you say, bug fixes, but the major ones are to introduce new scenery, and new features.

    Examples include:

A periodic rework of the scenery in particular areas to improve performance and/or appearance.

The addition of new functionality, such as VR support (which is ongoing and one of the strengths of this product)

The rectification of actual bugs, which is, as far as I can tell, just a small fraction of the whole update issue

A rework of areas like flight dynamics (of the planes - to make them more realistic)

Rework of weather, which to me is fine, but not exactly what other people want

And the rework of scenery which is flawed in some ways, that have been identified by fans who use the problem reporting process, and get results.

Here's the development Roadmap for the next couple of months (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/blog-march-4th-2021-development-update/373550). It includes the most reported bugs (probably not yours, because you haven't reported it to them yet), the most requested updates, and a view of just what they are doing in the next quarter in the way of new releases, Go look at it, it's a real eye-opener for those who don't realize just what's going on in the background to make the sim even better.
