Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Installation Problems / Clarification

Hi,

I have been struggling with getting MSFS 2020 to install!

Pre-Purchased the Premium Deluxe Edition and i have a Windows 10 PC - and so far all attempts have failed at some point over the last 12 hours of trying.

First question - what is the order of installation that should be performed from the Microsoft Store across the items that are listed there in two parts:

  1. Manage - with just one entry "Microsoft Flight Simulator: Premium Deluxe" and
  2. Bundle Contents - that lists four sub-parts

2.1 "Microsoft Flight Simulator"

2.2 "Flight Simulator Deluxe Upgrade"

2.3 "Flight Simulator Premium Deluxe Upgrade"

2.4 "Digital Ownership"

Is there a particular order or hierarchy that these need to be installed?

i.e. do each of the sub-parts of point 2 above need to be installed individually and prior to the first part (i.e. point 1), or does installing the first (Managed) install all the others?

So far the downloads have been erratic, and i installed the first part and then launched it, it started up and then froze, and then crashed on restart. When trying to install the sub-parts, the computer just site there with "working" displayed on the sub-part line.

This is really frustrating!

Anyone able to provide some guidance or point to a set of instructions on how to get MSFS2020 installed?

thanks!

    Good get, StnkingRegistrations,

Where did you find out about this feature of the software (which doesn't appear to be documented on their web site)? It could be useful if we can tell others a little more about this tool, and its features.

I found out because I already had the software installed & had not used it much; but now its my "go to" (I had to put links to my Steam HDD Drive & my EPIC HDD Drive [but its pretty easy]).

    Link to download https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/

A couple of ideas for you.

    1. Earlier on, when I first wanted to install the Standard version, nothing I could do worked. I used up megabytes of data transmission, but couldn't get the whole thing downloaded. Nothing worked. Then someone said "try using a VPN", which I did - and it worked!
    2. Recently, with SU 5 (an update), I couldn't download it from the MS Store, and there is now no other way to download updates other than through the store. If I logged in to the sim, it would log me out again, and send me to the store. When I got to the sim, it told me everything was OK and go back to the sim. It was a genuine endless loop! Again, someone said "the trick is to install the Xbox app, and if it is installed, shut it down and restart it." Again, not very confident of this solution, but indeed - it worked.
    3. Yes, this is the Microsoft support site, but it isn't the Microsoft Flight Simulator support site. That's at https://www.flightsimulator.com/. If you go there, you will find lots of FAQs about this stuff, plus a zendesk to log problems. If this doesn't work for you, head in to the forums, register yourself, and look for answers, ask questions there. You'll find a wealth of information there on many topics MSFS. Once you're up and running,

https://flightsim.to/ is a great site for lots of addons to improve your experience - all free, too.

Let us know how you get on with this, and whether any of the suggestions have been of any help.

    Good luck

    FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY

Got it to work at least twice in a row (other installs locked-up or would not allow restarting the game the next day [for instance]); what got it to work was to NOT using MS Store or XBox Game software for PC; what got it to run again (the 2nd/3rd time) was to open the game via 'NVidia GeForce EXPERIENCE' (comes with GPU Driver software). Now all is good (& it set the game to optimise all the graphics for my GPU/Tv).

Nice updates game looks good in 4K & runs smooth; even if the compete download took over 12 hours (& 4 previous days re-installing over & over).

Downloaded fs2020 eventually after numerous failed attempts. I read something about having to install Xbox on your system which I did and then I was able to download updates which had previously failed numerous times

Hope this is of some help. I have an Asus Tuf gaming laptop which runs the game perfectly.
