Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Installation Problems / Clarification

Hi,

I have been struggling with getting MSFS 2020 to install!

Pre-Purchased the Premium Deluxe Edition and i have a Windows 10 PC - and so far all attempts have failed at some point over the last 12 hours of trying.

First question - what is the order of installation that should be performed from the Microsoft Store across the items that are listed there in two parts:

  1. Manage - with just one entry "Microsoft Flight Simulator: Premium Deluxe" and
  2. Bundle Contents - that lists four sub-parts

2.1 "Microsoft Flight Simulator"

2.2 "Flight Simulator Deluxe Upgrade"

2.3 "Flight Simulator Premium Deluxe Upgrade"

2.4 "Digital Ownership"

Is there a particular order or hierarchy that these need to be installed?

i.e. do each of the sub-parts of point 2 above need to be installed individually and prior to the first part (i.e. point 1), or does installing the first (Managed) install all the others?

So far the downloads have been erratic, and i installed the first part and then launched it, it started up and then froze, and then crashed on restart. When trying to install the sub-parts, the computer just site there with "working" displayed on the sub-part line.

This is really frustrating!

Anyone able to provide some guidance or point to a set of instructions on how to get MSFS2020 installed?

    Hi John,

    The speeds there are not what I am used to at 5GHz and 450 Mbps and so selecting the SSD was most likely the best thing you to do.

    Not sure why the HDD option was failing in you, unless it had something to do with the Servers on both sides.  

    Good to know you were able to find a solution.

    It wasn't a HDD before, but a 512GB SSD PCIe NVMe, which was in the laptop when I purchased it. Theoretically, the 2TB SSD is actually slower than the SATA SSD, but I don't think that the disk was the problem, or the solution - the VPN was most likely the crucial change.

    I think that I MAY have discovered why at least some people are having problems downloading the sim.

    Last night, I made my fifth attempt at downloading it - the previous ones had either stopped part way through, or completed, but took a LONG time and used a LOT of data. I have a 50Mhz connection, and on previous efforts it was taking me more than 24 hours to download it, then I couldn't "download" all of the packages.

    Last evening, I downloaded it in just under 9 hours, and the data hit on my ISP was just on 210GB, which compares to 950GB, which my last attempt consumed over two and a half days, and failed repeatedly to load 17 plus updates from WU 1, 2 and 3.

    Today, I've just completed updating all the packages, and they are all there. 

    What is different?

    Well, I've done two things differently - one I don't think would have much impact on the download, and one that almost certainly did.

    The "low impact" was to switch from the 512GB SSD PCIe NVMe that came with the laptop I'm using, to using an after market 2 TB SSD.

    The other, and I think that this is probably the key to why it worked this time, was I used a VPN into my closest city.

    I have no idea WHY it worked, and I can't say that it will work for any one, but for those of you who are still struggling to download the sim, I reckon that this is certainly worth a try!

    My VPN is SurfShark, BTW, but I don't think that the actual VPN you use is likely to make much difference.

    Hi.  I purchased the Premium Deluxe 2020 Flight Simulator for Windows 10 and I get a cyclic redundancy check error during the install of disk 3.  I have tried this on my PC's C and D Drives as well as portable storage and a laptop BUT it always stops on the same file.  The disk 3's condition is scratched as well.  Do you sell replacement disks?  Thank you
