Cumulative updates - September 2020

The update in conjunction with Avast is creating issues where the firewall's are somehow blocking certain traffic for no reason. 

After I turned off my firewall I was able to update office, and use my mail program mailbird which was not receiving any email from gmail accounts. 

I will continue to monitor this issue and see if it persists but for now the firewall being turned off seems to fix all these issues. It may be an issue from Avast but this should be something that Microsoft and Avast have a conference call over as I cannot be the only one with this issue.

Have you considered that your Firewall may have identified something harmful trying to embed itself into your system. Perhaps Microsoft want a free run at your pc, perhaps they want to force you into using their security programmes.

I have paused recently, thank you hitbit. Which is why I think this unacceptable, especially because I cannot delete the update.

I have spent about 3 hours today trying my best to fix what now seems randomly solved. A couple weeks ago I had my internet service provider engineer spend about the same amount of time trying to fix an issue with random wifi service on and off. I had someone like very kindly help me with things like changing power plans and other quite bizarre ideas and I am fairly computer literate, so I cannot imagine what it's like for others who are not. 

I run ccleaner very regularly as well as spybot and superantispyware. Never had any issues until maybe 2 or 3 months ago.

I admit I am really frustrated with all the bad stuff and right now am crying a little because I am prone to do that when frustrated and am not feeling well. Also ransomware stuff amongst other things as above. Installing updates on peoples' computers when they have specifically turned automatic updating off and having it repeatedly make stuff go wrong and have cortana continually lurk about is just a straw on the camel's back. 

MS go do something good now. Maybe they are doing all this right now because they think people will let it slide.

My mom's work (a restaurant chain) just got ransomwared for the second time. Their business has basically gone to nothing and their very sizable employee base is out of work and there aren't other options like if they had closed shop before covid. We're all in the same boat and while ransomware was disgusting before, it's extra bad now. I get how I'm being het up by these operating system issues which are small potatoes in context to covid, but maybe MS could be helping out our countries and most importantly the upcoming US election to make a serious effort to support both the huge number of people who are destitute and struggling to eat. I should say additional group of people to those who were already. Then the whole democracy thing. I'll get off my soapbox. If edge and cortana make a difference in all this I might consider using them.

I am really sorry to hear about your Mom's business but wonder did it have protection and if so was it up to date or did the ransomware just bypass it. If the business had a security programme which promised protection from ransomware you might need to seek legal advice. On the subject of Microsoft coming to the rescue bugles blaring the cavalry charge don't hold your breath. Their rotten forced updates have been causing Windows users nightmares for almost a year now and either Microsoft are gone as thick as two short planks or they don't give a hoot. my money is on a combination as I believe Windows is finished and their next billion dollar baby is vaccines.

I realise google is intrusive and I should look at that also, but MS is a joke and is now actually frightening me. I believe it is illegal for them to install things on my computer when I've set it to not do so without my express permission. It is not a security update and I cannot uninstall it.

I use Windows Defender and have had no warnings or identified issues when I explore features. It is also an MS product so one would think that if was related to Defender they would address this immediately to prevent them from looking and being more incompetent.

The mind baffles.

I hear you - they have a consultant and have (and did) employ quite rigorous protection, even more after the first attack.

Ya not having any hope at all about MS. 

I wish I could do something but I'm not a white hat. 

If you have any particular suggestions with regards to their issues I'd love to hear them. Not sure how to pm but I'm making hail mary passes because why not.
