Somehow I'm back in business after several reboots and having to hard boot. I don't want to use edge. Don't keep putting it on my task bar. I really really don't want cortana so let people get rid of it. When will they give up?! So glad you're back in business!! Hope it stays that way. I hate Edge also and wish I could get rid of it. As for Cortana, I just went into permission settings and disabled things it can do!! I used to think Google was the most invasive, intrusive piece of rubbish until recently. MS is now tied for first place in that category. I don't think MS will ever give up controlling what (they THINK) we want, despite what we have to say about it. Good Luck!

Rivers2, I think I made a syst restore before the Edge update download. I'll try that. If MS was working for me when I was a line mgr in large F 500 co yrs ago, I would fired them 'on the spot' for Intellectual Dishonesty. The US military would court martial them, then off to Ft. Leavenworth. I know that's legacy thinking, mmmm maybe that's why we are in deep **** now. I rest my case. Regards klxdrt15

My mom's work (a restaurant chain) just got ransomwared for the second time. Their business has basically gone to nothing and their very sizable employee base is out of work and there aren't other options like if they had closed shop before covid. We're all in the same boat and while ransomware was disgusting before, it's extra bad now. I get how I'm being het up by these operating system issues which are small potatoes in context to covid, but maybe MS could be helping out our countries and most importantly the upcoming US election to make a serious effort to support both the huge number of people who are destitute and struggling to eat. I should say additional group of people to those who were already. Then the whole democracy thing. I'll get off my soapbox. If edge and cortana make a difference in all this I might consider using them.

Hi, Have you tried stopping the pause and then trying to uninstall the rubbish updates. Ps when you click to pause for 7 days click again and again until you pause for 5 weeks. Unfortunately that's the max I can get. I am resolved to buying a Mac system or a really good android tablet as I think Windows is finished. Since last November I can install updates but cannot log into my account (having tried all and everything but reinstalling windows. I am not prepared to do this as I believe it will become necessary for every update ) but have been able to uninstall the Malware like updates. That is until this last piece of criminal manure which stopped my printer, blocked my WiFi repeatedly when I tried to update any programme and keeps changing my keyboard settings. Another 2 hours of restarting then in and out of safe mode and I managed to get the system up and running to a degree. It would appear Microsoft have lost all interest in Windows an are simply going through the motions. It is incredible that they cannot log me into my own windows account following updates when they can log me into Microsoft Support, Community and Store with the very same log in credentials. Thankfully I did not subscribe, as was my plan, to office opting instead for Ashampoo's very good office 2018, a programme which more than adequately meets my needs. hitbit
