New Surface Duo owner... After freshly loading Windows 10 on a new Dell XPS 9700 and fully updating, Windows 10 crashes when the phone is plugged into the laptop. The "Your phone' app works perfectly and Windows behaves correctly in every other way except when plugging the Surface Duo into a USB port.

Wynn, my restore points were missing as well. I had to go into admin (shell) using services.msc and reactivate "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider ". After that you MUST enter SAFE MODE and system restore points will return. They are there but you will only see them doing this. SAFE MODE SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO USE SYSTEM RESTORE AGAIN. Hope you are successful.

(not my first or even second language.) Thanks once again, but I believe I'm better off leaving it alone since I have no clue what I'm doing. :D -( an admitted computer duffer.) I am mentally drained looking up fixes to all this nonsense. I figure come October 11 or so, when the forced updates are thrust upon me once again, this won't make a bit of difference. I would contact your carrier and ask them if they know the answer. Best of Luck! I used to own a Dell when telephone support was free! It may still be free for you if the laptop is new. You could try the chat troubleshooting. https://www.dell.com/en-us/cp/chat-live-with-product-expert It may just be ONE tiny setting that is 'off' when you plug your phone into laptop. I would contact your carrier and ask them if they know the answer. Best of Luck!
