Come October 10, force feeding me the updates again! I've seen this temporary fix on these boards and in researching on line. It seems you can disable updates by: Turning off the Windows Update Service - (Not my instructions) but from these boards and on line search. This may only work temporarily as the system seems to re-enable the service after a period of time.* Windows Update is a just another Windows Service and can as such be turned off. Follow these steps to stop Windows 10 updates: Fire up the Run command (Win + R). Type in “ services.msc ” and hit Enter. Select the Windows Service Update service from the Services list. Click on the “ General ” tab and change the “ Startup Type ” to “ Disabled ”. Restart your machine. When you want to re-enable automatic updates you just follow the same procedure except you select “ Automatic ” when choosing the “ Startup Type ”. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------My note: *Who knows how long a "period of time is." I'd assume you'd need to check it every day to see if it was re-enabled. More time wasted. I initially did the above and changed it back to automatic. Doing a System Restore right now to see if that resolves my issue, but it’s been stalling on “Initializing” for about an hour now.

I would recommend looking at the free forever version of Veeam. I moved to the solution a few weeks ago to backup my system in addition to my data only backups that go into the cloud. I dug an old hard drive out of my junk box and tested the bare metal recovery option and was pleased that armed with a USB stick and an external USB drive I can do a full backup before Windows updates come out as an insurance policy. https://www.veeam.com/windows-endpoint-server-backup-free.html

I am aware I can pause this rubbish for 5 weeks but then I have to go through the stress of allowing it to install and hope I can uninstall it when Microsoft, the biggest system manufacturer in the word proves incapable of logging me into my own account despite having the correct details... Just in case you did not know...Pro users can use group policy setting to delay the installation of quality updates (aka monthly updates) by x number of days as well as a separate setting for feature updates (aka the twice per year upgrades).

I, on the other hand, am basically an inexpert, half-wit, duffer when it comes to computers past anything on a basic level. I looked at the Veeam website and truly my eyes glazed over and crossed a few times while reading it. I am totally unfamiliar with more than 99% of the information I was seeing. It also seems the "free" is a free trial. Perhaps I'm missing something yet again. I wouldn't even dare to DL it (free or not) for fear I would mess up my computer more than MS did! I feel your pain! I'm in same boat. Come October 10, force feeding me the updates again!

I've seen this temporary fix on these boards and in researching on line. It seems you can disable updates by:

Windows Update is a just another Windows Service and can as such be turned off. Follow these steps to stop Windows 10 updates:
