Cumulative updates - September 2020

The quoted updates are not the rubbish Windows advised for my system. They downloaded and installed KB4576754 for Edge, KB4569751 for NET framework and KB4565351 Cumulative. They all installed but as usual Windows could not log me into my account so the Cumulative one had to be uninstalled yet again so my system would work. Does anyone know of a way to legally prevent Microsoft to forcing these malware like updates onto my system. I am aware I can pause this rubbish for 5 weeks but then I have to go through the stress of allowing it to install and hope I can uninstall it when Microsoft, the biggest system manufacturer in the word proves incapable of logging me into my own account despite having the correct details. Amazing that they can accept the exact same details and allow me to log into all other things Microsoft or Windows.

I think that Macrium was for future usage or if like me, you can roll back the update and reach a relatively stable OS.

TBH I have two other backup programs plus the Windows 7 backup, but they are all a bit dated. I agree with your view that the free version is rather limited and the paid for version is rather expensive. But all it needs to do is take a disk image so that you can get back to where you were. I'm using it right now, as tomorrow I plan to do a Win10 re-install to see if that fixes the problem: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4000735/windows-10-reinstall

Hello again JohnD.  I researched the Macrium Reflect software you advised. 

It seems the free version is very limited on what you can do.  It won't let you  Backup Files and Folders, which is basically what I'm looking for.   Also, it touts a free back up, disk imaging, and cloning solution.

I don't know who would want to back up or clone their system at this point if their computer is not in good shape anymore since the update problems.  If a computer is still working properly, it may be a great solution.

This is what I can gather:   In essence, I'd be backing up/cloning a bad version of my system. ???? after the update problems.  This program seems a bit "over my head."  Had I done this months ago, it may have saved me, but at this point I feel it's putting the cart before the horse.   If I'm incorrect, please set me straight.

I signed up for a free pCloud account and have been storing important docs there. It's easy to use and they give 10 MB free storage.  All they require to sign up is an e-mail account and password.  That's it!  It's not a solution to storing many photos, but for docs it's wonderful.

As of yesterday, I'm now having problems with internet connection.  Seems to fail several times per day. Have to run the great and powerful Oz 'wizard' to fix it.  'I've also had to update graphic drivers several times.  What next?

I do rely on my computer for on-line banking and with no connection... scrood.  As is, I now have to make an appointment to go to my bank physically due to Covid restrictions.  Hmmmm... Maybe windows contracted the covid virus.

Thanks again.  I appreciate the knowledge I gain here!!!   I wish I were able to help more people myself, but I know just enough about computers to be dangerous.
