Hi,
Included is an image of recent updates that failed because I removed Edge several wks earlier. One of the new updates includedd Edga which I paused for 7 days. Then I got several updates & took them. MS would Edge was removed that I didn't want it & would
not download/install it. Just plain old common sense.
1] How do I remove Edge & how can I prevent MS from installing EDGE again?
2] How do I get the Uninstalled updates to install?
3] What happened to the 'critical' & 'Optional' updates like in W7?
I THOUGHT I uninstalled Edge myself a week or so ago. It's back again. Now when I go to UNINSTALL it the box is greyed out and won't let me rid it. I TRIED to use an uninstaller program I have, and guess what? EDGE doesn't even show up in the list of
programs/apps to get rid of. INSANE. I just changed my preferences to a different browser, but sometimes certain links open in Edge. Pshhhh. There is an article about this here: A Very Good Read!! "WITH EDGE, MICROSOFT'S FORCED WINDOWS UPDATES JUST
SANK TO A NEW LOW
https://www.theverge.com/21310611/microsoft-edge-browser-forced-update-chromium-editorial
From the article: The insanely intrusive app I’m talking about isn’t a piece of ransomware. It’s Microsoft’s new
Chromium Edge browser, which the company is now force-feeding users via an automatic update to Windows.
"Did I mention that, as of this update, you can’t uninstall Edge anymore?"
-----------Back to your questions KL:
(2) Unsure about that one, since my installs updated just fine... much to the detriment of my machine! Even after rolling back to the earlier version, many problems exist! I'll be getting the force feed again around Oct. 11. Good Times!
(3) The days of critical and optional updates
are long gone... everything is force fed whether you want it or not, unfortunately.
What should I know about Updates so I don't run into problem like other users I've read about. -
That's a million dollar question. If we knew the answer to that once, we wouldn't be in the fine mess we're in now. I'd put off installing updates as long as you can in hopes they MAY fix things before the force-feed once again, but I'm not holding my
breath on that one.
I do want to ADD one thing: While you can, BACK UP anything important that is on your computer (Docs, Photos, bookmarks, etc) to another device.. be it an external hard drive, DVDs, flash drive, cloud service. Too many people have lost
these things after the update.
