Help, I just updated, automatic update, to Win 10 version 2004 Kb4571756 build 19041.508. I have now lost a lot. I no longer have anything I put on my desktop, my files are missing in folder downloads, documents, pictures and who knows what else. It's a disaster for me, is there another update coming to fix all these issues, I feel like my computer is not really usable in this state.
Sorry you've become a member of the WIN-HOSED club Glen. I'm assuming you never BACKED UP your important files, photos, etc.????
I'm no expert by any means but have you tried:
Re-starting your computer about 7 times... (I read this worked for someone.)
Have you created a restore point that you can try to go back to?
In the search box: type jpeg: do any photos show up as small icons? If so, Click Open File Location located to the right side. It MAY show a path to where your photos may have been moved to. You can also type in .doc and see if any of your documents show up on the left side. If so, once again, click on Open File Location again to see a possible path.
You can UNINSTALL the latest update through the windows update manager. It's a temporary fix because they only allow you to defer getting the update for a set amount of time before forcing you to install the update again at a later date. That was what I HAD to do!!!! Come early October I'll be force fed the update again. There is also a troubleshooting option in windows update panel on the left side. You can try running that and see if anything helps.
I'm not holding my breath for another update to fix these issues. I have little faith they are capable of doing that, but would be great if it would happen!!!
I know there are other members here with more knowledge than I have and may be able to help you more. Good Luck!
Hi. By the way, Microsoft is removing the Defer Update option starting from Windows 10 Version 2004 in Settings> Update and Security> Windows Update> Change Advanced Windows Update Settings> Defer Update. Instead use the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) Path: (Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates> Windows Components> Windows Update> Windows Update for Business> Select when Preview builds and Feature Updates are received or Select when Quality Updates are received)
(Local Group Policy Editor is only available on Windows 10 Pro and above).
